Lawrence and the Jets...

Mr. Scot

I gotta a little inside knowledge on the situation, but nothing crazy. The reason he’s considering returning is simply because he doesn’t want to leave. That’s it. He just loves playing for Clemson. Not to mention he’s basically a god on campus. He was also excited earlier this season when it looked like ATL might end up with the first pick. Fwiw.

Is the Jets organization that bad, or is it primarily Adam Gase?

Their GM is only in his second year.

Apparently they were going to hire Rhule a couple years ago, but gave him a list of coordinators he could interview. It's pretty bad.

I've been saying for a couple months that Lawrence may decide to stick around for his senior year. Can't blame him and he really doesn't need the excuse of the shitshow Jets. He's going to miss a few games due to COVID, unfortunately the team lost its #1 CFP rank when that happened. He also likely lost out on any serious Heisman consideration as well.

Look, say what you want about Clemson, but when they're a healthy team, there's nobody better. And that's all the motivation Lawrence needs to stay. He doesn't even need to bring up the Jets when discussing his future in Clemson.

And, yes, the Jets organization is a dumpster fire from the top down. Someone just needs to let it burn to the ground and start over.

And let's not act like Elway was the only guy to poo on an NFL team. Eli Manning did it, too. As did Jim Kelly and Bo Jackson.

Its the Jets/ownership.

Team lucked into a superbowl on the back of an alcoholic in the 60s and has been unable to capture any form of stability since then.

They've somehow successfully manipulated their fan base as well - they somehow get excited every year over terrible moves.

I think it's the ownership group.

I still don't know how they had some success with Rex Ryan and Butt Fumble, but outside of those years, that team has been BAD for a long time.

Dumb luck.

Rex poached a bunch of defensive talent that was evaluated and coached up by the Ravens when he became HC of the Jets.

They managed to put together a very good defense.  Curtis Martin was a solid back.  But I still think they got lucky making it all the way to the AFCC.

That's just idiotic. If you feel the need to force a list of potential coordinators on a coach, then you're talking to the wrong candidate. Anyone who would accept such restrictions isn't worth hiring and is almost certainly destined to fail anyway.

Elway did it. Eli did it. The both have two Super Bowls each. It’s not talking Sh!t about an NFL team. It’s making the best decision for himself. The Jets have been a terrible franchise. Rex Ryan have them a little bit of hope and then it went back to crap. Why would you force Trevor to go play for a franchise who has ruined a top QB prospect like Sam Darnold? Just because the Jets cannot make good football decisions year after year doesn’t justify them to get Trevor Lawrence next year. Heck, Bill Belichick was the coach of the Jets for only one day before resigning so he could be traded to the Patriots. Bill went on and won 6 championships.

Eli and Elway both played 4 years in college and had to enter the draft.

Lawrence can decide to stay in school without even mentioning the NFL. Why go out of your way to sh!t on an NFL team, regardless of how bad the organization is, when there's no need to do it?

I was a big Baltimore Colt fan back when Elway did it to the colts.   I have hated him every since.

If you are a No. 1 pick you are going to a terrible team.

Peyton did  it to the Jets back in 1997.

Eli to the Chargers in 2004 (but not by returning to college, he & agent forced a trade).

Luck returned to college in 2011 rather than play for Panthers.

As mentioned above Elway refused to play for Colts in 1984.

Who remembers that Bo Jackson refused to suit up for the Buc's after being drafted #1 in 1986?  The Raiders drafted him in round-7 of 1987 NFL draft and Bo ended up playing there.

Lots of historical precedent for this type of things....

Which team needing a franchise QB would be stupid not to give their entire draft plus future picks for Trevor?

I would be 100% ok with giving them our entire draft this year for him.

Trevor plus the guys we have would still make for some decent ball.

If I’m the Jets I would call his bluff and draft him. Make him sit out half the year and if he still refuses to show up then trade his rights at the deadline for a huge haul to a team that needs a QB that is out of 1st pick range.

An NFL team can only draft him if he declares. Guy doesn't declare for the draft and announces he's going to stay in school for another year, NFL teams can't decide to draft him anyway.
