Zach Wilson, Trey Lance or...

Sam Howell?

Don't get a hung up on the names. You can exchange players here if you prefer Wilson over Fields (as I know some do) or if you think there's a better 2021 prospect than Howell, but the basic premise of the question is this:

Would you prefer to get one of your second choices in the coming draft or would you be willing to wait a year to get someone who would be a top choice in the next?

Howell. BUT, I don't think we'll be bad enough to be in position to draft Howell next year.

I definitely agree.  This team is performing well above expectations and next year those one score losses will turn into one score wins.

If we get some O-line help we could do well and won't be in the top 10.

Granted, but if you've used this year's offseason to build a better roster, then maybe trading up is a more reasonable option.

I prefer to get a QB this year. We could be a fringe playoff team next year with Teddy and will not have as good of an opportunity to get a QB. I like Howell, but that's just not happening and I'd rather not trade up. Much better to get Lance or Wilson this year and let him develop behind Teddy for a year while we build up the OL as well.

I have a sense that the prospect of watching another year of Bridgewater may affect some people's answers.

He's almost certainly going to be the starter next year regardless of what happens in this draft, unless the impossible happens and we wind up with Lawrence. We have the luxury of starting Bridgewater for a year and we're paying him to be the starter next year anyways, and all of Fields/Wilson/Lance could use some time on the sideline to continue to develop before being thrown to the wolves, especially behind a shaky OL as it stands right now.

    • You would hope so. I’m confused why the sports world seems split on Bryce when he’s obviously not working out.
    • So let’s do the reverse? Make everyone agree everything he does is a disaster? I also think the whole “gaslighting” is on the eye of the beholder. It went from he can’t avoid one single sack countered with he actually did that well Sunday (with data backing it) to a little breakdown of why he is so bad. People are going to have different opinions. I’m also not going to pretend this wasn’t happening Day one with this little QB.
    • All this great stuff he has done, how often does he do it?  I have it at three or four games out of 14 where he was very good and then you get a drive here or a series there where there are some good things. Here is the gaslight part: everyone has put him on a curve with his first year the baseline, neglecting to understand how bad he was then. Even if he comes back twice as good, where does that really leave him? 25th ranked or thereabouts.     He had so far to go, and still does, it is a Major ‘settle’ to accept his play as worthy of giving him our future.  You want to settle when the Bucs have Mayfield, and the Saints have overtaken us at QB? We will be third in the division at QB. That is good enough for y’all?
