tre lance is a risk because of the unk , one of the best seasons ever statistically , a one up and down 2020 game thats iffy , but could it be he did bad so his stock goes out of top 5 so he can be drafted by a team that already has talent , could be . but potential alone he should be the pick , he has a rocket arm , he is fast , he is a solid runner , he can throw on the run , he doesnt turn the ball over often , and a very under looked part that that from me watching 14 videos of lance is that he is in a  NFL style offense , he plays under center goes through reads he is not in a college shotgun crazy offense .his potential is a mix of cam which we all miss , lamar jackson and some patrick mahomes in him . just with his athletic side i cant see him bad at all , does he get the ball out quick enough or is he a good pocket passer idk thats the unknowns . 

potential alone he is the best qb in this draft and boy i hope we can get him , its making me lose sleep because i want him as our pick !!!!! lets get it hurney .

As to the premise though, right now I'm more on the Zach Wilson train. Heck, there are national guys looking at him as potentially better than Justin Fields.

I still can't jump on that train with both feet though, specifically because a lot of what's being said about him physically reminds me of our current quarterback's pre-draft evaluations.

I dunno.. imagine Zach Wilson paired up with Joe Brady. I think Wilson has vaulted himself as the #3 QB of this draft. And I’m not for it, but I’m sure some draft evaluators will be unsure of Fields due to the talent at every position at Ohio State.

Definitely worth remembering that if you're looking at somebody to run our current scheme, you're probably seeking a steady "game manager" type more so than a big play guy.

Mind you, I don't say that as an endorsement of one quarterback over another. It's just something you have to take into account when you're evaluating.

I went and watched a video to see Wilson's throws...I think you may be on to something. I wasn't blown away but it was also just a small portion. Going in a lateral direction at QB is a waste, we already have Teddy for 2 more years. Go draft somewhere else if that's the case. 

I don't care about hype. Teddy that just doesn't have a good enough mix of skills and physical talent. It's not fair but every game I watch it's evident. If the draftee doesn't, they shouldn't be our pick. It was like looking at Little coming out. I get why they draft experts put him where he went but damn, he didn't pass the eye test at all. In the end, if you would rather play against them then have them play for you is there anything more that needs to be said? Need makes these people do dumb crap every year.

if the national perception is that Wilson is better than Fields, then Jags will probably take him.

Well to be fair, national perception didn't have Mitch Trubisky ahead of Patrick Mahomes and DeShaun watson, but the Bears perception did.

I'm always reluctant to try to predict what bad teams are going to do. Worth noting that the Jags will have a new general manager at that time, and he might want to make a splash.

Wilson doesn't say "splash" to me, but Fields does.

To be clear, my fears on that front are less "Can he make the throws" and more "Xayn he take the pounding?'

      Great post! Now that I think on it, I think D line might be our biggest need. We are one player away from having a potential disastrous defensive line. Brown and Wharton struggled last year and Wharton has really only been a rotational player that specializes in one thing. Can we count on him being a full time starter? Jackson is unproven. Do you want a starting defensive line of Wharton, Brown and Jackson? I don’t want to risk it.   I honestly don’t think linebacker is that big of a need. If Rozeboom ends up coming back then why get a LB?   games are won in the trenches and I would honestly prefer us drafting an offensive or defensive linemen over any other position in the first. The prospect you mentioned seems like a good prospect who has had some good production as well. Only problem is defensive line is a position that can take time for a player to develop. Will whoever we draft be ready this season ?

      Have they though? I'll give you KC with Kelce, but c'mon, they weren't winning those SB's because they had a great TE, it was a combination of Mahomes and some great defenses.  Will also give you the 49ers and Ravens with Kittle and Andrews, but even then, both have missed time with injuries the last few years. After those 3 teams, the best teams of the last 2-3 years have not had elite TEs The Eagles had Goedert, he's good, not great. The Bills have also had good but not great TE's The Rams have had average TEs and still consistently run 2 and 3 TE sets with them and still win. The Bucs have been winning the South without a great TE The Lions' Laporta is more a name than a highly productive TE. The Texans have had a serviceable TE in Shultz, but nothing too amazing. Some of the best TE's in the league the last few years have been on some of the worst teams.  McBride, Bowers, Warren, Njoku, even Pitts this past year. A true elite TE is absolutely a weapon in today's game, but I think the best teams use that money elsewhere and find serviceable TE play, usually through a committee where each TE brings something else to the table.
