CBS just through a curve ball (or click bait) having us picking Mac Jones as the third QB off the board. Even if he has one hell of a lead up to the draft, I see no way he goes top 10.  Be nice to throw another option in the ring though.

what was Joe Burrow's projected draft slot at this time last year?   Those last 3 big games he played were big.

If Mac Jones blows through the SEC Championship, Ohio St, Clemson to a natty.....he easily could leap some dudes IMO.

Same response I have always said - if you believe a probable top 5 NFL QB is available and you don't have one you take him.....no question.  If he is a probable 10-20 QB and you have one already - take best player available.

I believe we have a 10-15 ranked QB - so if we have a shot at Trevor or Fields I would likely go QB - the next 2 are probably a pass.

As opposed to whom? His options were pretty limited.

Had a better/cheaper QB on the roster on a one year deal. Keeping Cam was a win/win. If he was trash then we’re in the same boat with no long term money tied up. If he’s good then we don’t need a QB. Just a dumb ass decision.

Keeping Cam for a prove it season was always my preferred option.

only thing I can think of is maybe Cam was just too "big" for the young OC and new college football coach to have in the locker room.  Which I might can get.

He was already the presumed #1 overall pick.

Allen could not throw a long ball either.  And he seemed to regress.  At least Teddy won the 5 games for NO. Also...he was familiar with what Brady wanted to run so less of a learning curve.  Could see where he looked like the better risk.

Somebody who had seen Allen play in college said his MO was to look really good early but then to regress as the season went on.

I don't remember who said that, but they looked like a genius with that statement.

It says he is a traditional pocket passer but he is listed at 6'3 215?  Umm what?

that was after he won the Heisman though and SEC championship.

I've been looking for a projections of where Burrow was projected as the season was ending before the SEC championship.

If Mac Jones runs through the SEC Championship,  wins the Heisman, wins the college playoff in convincing fashion....I'll put every Carolina Huddle Cool Buck that I have on him jumping guys and being at least top 4 projected QB.   Strong odds for Mac to add all that to his resume.  Those 3 games are bump city in terms of draft stock.   He isn't going to stay behind Lance and Wilson IMO if he adds all that (looking good while doing it).   Mac is the only guy whose stock has the ability to take a massive jump IMO.

Hurney trading next year's 1st to move up is the nightmare scenario.

Of course... I just mentioned how I was thinking. And what I would consider.  Not sure that would be much better.    Having Hurney making that selection. No.

Valid point

the problem with drafting a QB early is if you miss......you are doing it again 2 years later (see Washington), and possibly replacing the coaching staff

Surely Rhule knows this. So unless he is sold on one of these QBs being his guy - my guess is they okay it safe, ride with Bridgewater, and keep building.

The thing with that QB class and Haskins is it was a very weak class, and it was thought of as a reach even when Haskins was drafted (#15).

That 2019 draft we had these QB's:
Kyler Murray #1 (Jury still out. Shows potential though)
Daniel Jones #6 (Also was thought as a reach at the time)
Dwayne Haskins #15 (Thought to be a reach)
Drew Lock #42
Will Grier #100
Ryan Finley #104

Where the draft class has looked strong at QB those top 3 guys were more likely a hit than a miss. Where teams that need a QB reach since the talent pool is low, well, we know the results.
