Two things in our favor, draft-wise

a) Rhule knows how to evaluate college players and figure out how to make them succeed on the field. Sure, it might take one season to get them rolling with The Process, but Rhule has proven he can take a ragtag gang of misfits and turn them into contenders in a short timeframe.

b) Luke is also scouting players. And Luke knows how to watch tape.

Who wouldn't want to be a fly on the wall listening to the Rhule + Luke analysis?

As much as I appreciate your optimism - does Rhule actually have any track record of that at the NFL level? His success came from getting players at 2nd or 3rd tier CFB programs to buy into a system. And while he was very successful at that an I hope he replicates that here.....this is a whole new animal to him

and we all love Luke - but being a generational player doesn’t necessarily translate to scouting

If you believe that Rhule was in charge of the last draft, which most of us believe, he has started off well.

Luke is probably one of the best to ever play and his ability to watch tape and adjust his game to what he watches.  That said, watching potential players on tape.  He would be able to determine whether it was talent or scheme that made the player good.

I think his input would be invaluable.  Maybe not making  the final decision but giving a players point of view would definitely help.

Based on this year's success, I'm optimistic about our draft future. The Seahawks had a string of tremendous drafts following hiring Pete Carroll that kick-started their success. These college coaches know college talent. They likely recruited a lot of these guys.

Pete had an extra advantage because he was basically an NFL coach who was spending time at the college level.  He had a good idea of what traits translated to the NFL, and who had them.  He definitely had an advantage in scouting players, having been in some of their living rooms meeting their family and watching them grow.  His buddy Pat Kirwan told the story of getting a phone call from Pete Carrol when Pete was still at USC.  He told Pat "keep an eye on the Earl Thomas kid I just lost to Texas.  I think he's the next Troy Polamalu!"  Years later everyone remembers when he had a chance to take his own USC safety but took Earl instead.

Wow, if we are still using tape that's something Tepper is going to have to upgrade to some kind of digital format. LOL

I don’t believe for a second that Rhule was in charge of the last draft. That’s why Hurney was kept around

I don’t see a world where a billionaire hires a coach with zero NFL experience and just let’s him run everything himself

Surely he had impact - but not his show alone (yet)

Do you believe it now? Marty sure wouldn’t have been fired if he was in charge of a great draft.

Me too. It’s also why I wanted Marty gone. Can I get a hallelujah? Rhule and co are soon not going to have that knowledge advantage that helped so much especially since many visits and pro days got canceled. Having a competent GM/scouts installed that can weigh in and take over a bit as Rhule and co will have way less extra knowledge starting in the 2022/2023 drafts.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
