AGE: 45 (1975)

HOMETOWN: Philadelphia, PA

CAREER: 23 years with the Baltimore Ravens and learned under future hall of fame executive Ozzie Newsome. He started at the bottom and worked up the ranks until 2009 when he became the Director of College Scouting.

He started in 1996 along with Eric Decosta as part of the "20/20 Club," and whenever Decosta got promoted, Hortiz wasn't far behind. In the 12 years he's been the director he's had an impressive track record of drafting talent, ranging from Lamar Jackson to Mark Andrews to Patrick Queen to Marlon Humphries and everywhere in between. 

PANTHER CONNECTIONS: I didn't find any overlap besides the Pennsylvania native, but that'll happen when you stay with one team your whole career.

Teppers Checklist:

- Pennsylvania native
- Young up-and-comer
- Comes from a team with a long tradition stability, of drafting well and being competitive every year.
- Longevity, being committed to one team for 19 years as Tepper likes long-term investments
- Analytics? I'm sure in some capacity.

I'm not saying he's a savior, but I love his pedigree and would like them to at least bring him in to interview. I know he'll probably be a hot name again

And if Baltimore gets knocked out of contention, and they decide he's the guy, it'd be great to lock a GM now rather than in February. So I'll be cheering for the Giants and the hog mollys to win (somehow).

Im pretty sure it doesn't matter anymore as long as the team agrees. Perhaps it only applies to the HC, but doesn't specially say GM's are excluded.

Prior to the end of the 2020 regular season, all interviews for coach, coordinator, G.M., or assistant G.M. must happen virtually, by video conference of phone. After the end of the regular season, the protocol changes.

During the postseason, if the candidate’s club has been eliminated from the playoffs, interviews can be conducted in person. If the candidate’s team is still participating in the postseason, the interview must be virtual.

For any in-person interview, the interviewing team and the candidate (with one representative present) must wear masks at all times and maintain six feet of physical distance. The interviews are recommended to be as short as possible, with multiple 30-minute meetings preferred over a two- or three-hour continuous session."

I read somewhere that GMs are excluded. It only applies to coaches.

Wasn't sure the lower post was when they originally pitched this change where as the link was the adoption. 

I find it hard to believe they wouldn't allow GM's candidates to be virtually interviewed during the post season though. Not like they are doing jack poo at that point.

    • The little fella will be here for 2 more seasons. This talk all seems so premature.
    • So looking at the current standings we are 15th in draft order.  Several teams will probably pass us especially if we actually lose out. There are 3 teams that most definitely will be drafting a QB Jets, Raiders and Saints  Cardinals (Murray), Dolphins (Tua) and Houston (Stroud) with question marks Browns Gabriel and Sanders but maybe they jump on another QB if they get high pick Titans (Ward), Commanders (Daniels), Falcons (Penix) Giants (Dart) Vikings (McCarthy) all young QBs but most likely wont' be drafting a QB.  Dallas (Dak) and Bengals (Burrow) doubtful I doubt Jets, Raiders and Saints surpass us in wins. So we'd be in the window for the 4th best QB in a bad QB class. 
    • Just curious how many conversations you’ve had about banning op or is it just people whose opinions you generally disagree with like Icege. You seem more than happy to agree with trolling and dead threading when it aligns with your opinions. OPs post history is 10x worse than people you’ve banned or talked about banning. On the topic of Bryce Young, heading into the season a lot of people wanted to see is Bryce Young the guy moving forward, or isn’t he? I think the question has been answered in that he is not. That’s actually worse for the Panthers than if he built on his performances at the end of last season and became the guy, but you wouldn’t know that by how some here are acting. Pretty well confirms that some on this board would rather be right about an opinion that would be bad for the team, than watch the team succeed. Weird how OP only shows up once a year after the QB and Panthers absolute worst performances…
