Last year, we probably would have taken Herbert if he made it to us---Since that did not work out, we are going to do it this year--especially after seeing Bridgewater's game.  Improving competition is not negative--nobody is crowning him as the starter.

i think there’s a difference in opinion of what it means to be a “culture” guy as far as coaching goes. i think it’s easy to just be the “culture” guy who only wants guys without flaws. i don’t think that’s how rhule views himself so i don’t think it’s contradictory to tout your ability to build culture while checking up on players like haskins. i think it’s actually pretty consistent.

and what player is alienated by haskins being brought in? if it’s anyone outside of the qb room then they’re probably mentally weak and if it’s someone inside the qb room who gives a poo because all of them suck

If I'm a player here, especially a guy who was here under Rivera, no way do I respect a guy who goes to a strip club in a pandemic when his coach (and my former coach) is recovering from cancer and is at risk. He showed zero respect to his coach his team. Players see how other players are treated. It doesn't matter what room you're in. fug Haskins

I also get the impression that Rhule is very aware of him ability to get the most out of unloved or damaged goods.  I think he sees his ability to get people with baggage to perform at a high level and develop chemistry with teammates and coaches is his gift--and he can be most effective by applying that gift to opportunities.  I tell my students (future principals) "There are no bad kids, just kids in bad situations." Rhule has a degree in Education--but pulling people out of their situations and establishing trust so that the kid can maximize his or her potential is an art.  Rhule has that gift.

That is a very valid point---Haskins could be a bonehead.  They should ask him that.

Younger players have handled themselves better in the NFL. It's actually pretty easy to work hard for your team and keep your head down. It takes a real choice to ignore your team's and coach's health (when you've already been fuging benched and are one of the last available QBs on the roster) and go out like he did. He spat in his coach's face with that decision.

Young people can make mistakes no doubt and their lives shouldn't be ruined. But this guy isn't even showing any effort to do the right thing and be a pro. It's not a simple mistake. I see nothing redeeming about him.

I can also 1000% see this.  HOWEVA...imagine being so dumb or ignorant, even at 23, that you act like Haskins has to get canned.  What's been reported hasn't been pretty, but for Rivera to get rid of a guy, or just any team in general seeing a 2nd year 1st round QB as such a sunk cost they just...cut you? What has gone on that HASN'T been reported to reach that point? 

Like I said, I can see this point and maybe Haskins just needed a wake up call.  But at the same time...to be a 23 year old professional and need a wake up call?  I see plenty more examples of equally aged (or younger) professional athletes not needing their hands held.
