Person on the Fitterer hiring process

Mr. Scot

Much prefer to see Rhule get his way here over Tepper just on the basis of scouting vs. analytics.  Get the guy who can scout and find talent, and let the analytics help decisions...not the other way around.

A little worried that Tepper is on the MLB path in his dream world, where coaches/managers are handed a binder of analytics and make decisions based on that over feel.

I've seen nothing to indicate Fitterer is much of a math guy. His resumé is all concentrated on talent evaluation.

"The Seattle Seahawks have the NFL’s second-best winning percentage since 2012. One of the secrets to that success may lie within the team’s sports science department.

Seattle has separated itself from competitors with its usage of technology and data analytics to help maximize player performance and ultimately win more games. The Seahawks were the first NFL franchise to establish a sports science group seven years ago, an effort spearheaded by general manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll."

And perhaps we'll hire somebody from their sports science department.

But again, that's not who Fitterer is.

FWIW I think it's helpful to say who you would have hired instead.

I think Adofo-Mensah, with an assistant GM who is very strong in scouting would have been the perfect marriage.

I hope we can hire our own version of Adofo-Mensah to assist Fitts now

I'm guessing most people are gonna say Adam Peters.

I'll be interested to see if we hire an Assistant GM now. I know Tepper had talked about it before but I think that's when he was looking at somebody to gradually replace Marty.

Had been speculating that someone like Pat Stewart might get that job if they do.

Again I would love for the assistant to be heavily analytics driven, Pat Stewart isn't a bad choice but seems like more of the same to me

This sounds more like Seattle is using analytics to help them improve the players they already have, not evaluate the ones they don't have.  Less "moneyball" and more high tech fitness.

Stewart's a pro personnel guy.

We have a Director of Analytics (Taylor Rajack) but he's not really a personnel exec.

So far, Matt Rhule is getting what he wants on this front.

Well we sure need that...injuries, and not recovering from them, has been a major issue for us for yrs

this fits in with Teppers vision of the high tech facility he wants

The most important issue is determining who stays, and who goes from the scouting department. There’s still a pretty healthy amount of renovation that probably needs to happen. Not saying people should be losing jobs, but it’s almost inevitable when you transition. Also, for all the talk about analytics, this needs to be the year that the owner truly shows that he cares about developing this. Carolina has some analytical presence in the building, but there are other franchises doing it in more progressive, transparent fashion.

Speaking of which, probably time to stop being so vague about the mechanics of the football operations side of this franchise. I mean, Matt talks about just wanting to be a coach, and refuses to take questions on players contracts, and that’s fine. But, he’s pretty much hiring his own general manager right now. Which, in a lot of ways, was inevitable, given Marty’s dubious status.

Wouldn't mind if he managed to steal Matt Berry from Seattle.

My biggest questions would be what happens with Jeff Morrow and Matt Allen. Those are the two most prominent holdovers from the Jerry Richardson era.

Morrow currently has the same title as Pat Stewart with the word "executive" in front of it. That seems awkward to me. And given that Stewart is a Matt Rhule guy, gotta figure if they decide they only need one guy with that title, it's gonna be him.

And of course, Allen is Jerry Richardson's grandson. He's the Director of Pro Personnel right now, and our free agent acquisitions under he and Marty haven't exactly been the greatest.

If they were to replace Allen and decide Morrow is redundant, I wouldn't be that shocked.
