NO TO WATSON, NO TO STAFFORD.... YOU WIN THROUGH THE DRAFT

probably would be better to remove Tom Brady entirely and then lay out your evidence discussing only recent history.  Not sure going back to the early 90s holds much weight.  Too much different back then.

Brady is a football anomaly that skews and distorts so much.

Not just the NFL, but we are entering a new era of professional sports.  Superstar athletes behave different and view things differently now.   So I would imagine things to some extent will skew more to what 2020 Tom Brady represents than the Patriot Brady you noted going forward.   In 1990, a QB wouldn't be doing what Watson is doing currently.   Could argue the Lions wouldn't be doing what they are doing now either as teams built themselves differently and developed QBs slower.

one more thought to add to this...

another reason I think it will start to skew more to a 2020 Tom Brady is that because of rule changes and how long QBs can play because of it and other factors.    So Brady goes to Tampa.  Peyton goes to Denver.  Rivers goes to Indy.  I think more and more big names that would have retired with a team earlier years ago... play for other teams going forward.

Montana went to the Chiefs

Flacco went to the Broncos

Vick went to the Eagles

Cousins went to the Vikings

Favre went to the Vikings

Palmer went to the Raiders

Cam went to the Pats

Big name QBs have gone to other teams with limited to no success

But do you really think Watson would come home and not succeed?

If you want to lessen the Brady effect, just look at BOTH QB's in each SB.  Think of it like this:  If you get to the SB, there's a 50/50 chance you win it.  Those SB "losers" got their team there and gave them a chance.  That's all you can ask for.

2001- could have been Warner

2003- could have been Delhomme

2004- could have been McNabb (Drafted)

2005- could have been Russell (drafted)

2016- could have been Ryan (drafted)

2018- could have been Goff (drafted)

Even if "the other team" beat the Pats in their SB wins drafted QBs still outpaced FA/traded QBs

as I said, league is changing.  You got to factor that in and it makes a comparisons to different eras irrelevant IMO.   QBs play longer.  Teams don't take as long to develop and play drafted guys.  That is going to create new scenarios that simply didn't exist in years past.

Look at other sports, how many teams did Jordan, Bird, Magic, etc win titles with.   Superstars essentially got married to a city and build their legacy there.    Players don't care about that anymore.  Lebron gonna win titles with how many different teams?

In the past, players went to other teams because franchises were ready to move on.  Going forward we are going to see superstar players dictating they are the ones ready to move on.   We are seeing that in numerous sports.

Cousins, Favre, Palmer, Vick all took other teams to the playoffs though.   And again, they all represent recent history.

    • I can say that I have defended Canales because I get that they are doing all they can to keep from looking like idiots for drafting Bryce, from the trade up to signing $150m guards to drafting XL and Brooks etc---nothing seems to work.  And Hiring Canales was part of the Bryce Young rehab program, so so he can't really decide to "move on."  That has to come from Morgan and Tepper. Personally, I think Bryce is due for an injury.  He is small, he is not thick, and he has been a LOT more healthy than most any other QB has who has endured so much pressure.  The thing that bothers me is this---Bryce really does not go through his progressions quickly.  He locks on to his presnap read and stays locked onto him for too long--he seems to fail to anticipate the WR/TE's positioning on the play before the cut--for example, if the WR is running a dig and the CB has his back to the inside of the field, he should be open for a second or less just after the cut.  He seems to wait until the cut has been made before deciding, then checking down quickly while moving in the pocket. OL:  There seems to be a lack of communication--is that on Mays?  Watch this team presnap--they seem a bit confused at times.   I can almost predict the success rate of the play by watching the center and QB before the snap.
    • Anyone else remember back in 2010 when Fox piloted having music under the in-game replays during one of Carolina's games? Not the commercial bumpers but the actual replay clips that the announcers would talk over. Pretty sure it was vs the 49ers. And it was terrible. Point being, Carolina continues being so bad that we get the networks trying things out during their games.
    • Is it bad I found this video more hilarious than pathetic? I am still laughing at that one play where half the people on the field ran into each other and Bryce still couldn't see Chuba wide open... Also laughing at Cade blocking nobody and somehow losing his cleat Man this offense is a poo show
