2021 NFL Mock Draft: Lions, Falcons trade up after Panthers acquire Matthew Stafford

no one is going to want to trade for Teddy either.  We just need to forget that thought.  Teddy serves one purpose.  A backup QB.  Teddy only made sense in Carolina as temp solution because Joe Brady was installing a new offense in a COVID season and had less time.

If we can get Stafford for a 2nd then hell yeah. That would be a STEAL.

I like Pitts a lot, but in that scenario I'm taking Darrisaw if we have him evaluated as a legit NFL LT. We'd like to have a TE, but we NEED a LT. And in terms of positional value, LT >>>>> TE.

Yes.  If we could somehow land someone like Stafford and still hold onto our first this year, we would have to seriously think about taking the top LT still available.  That or Surtain at CB.  Both a glaring needs.

Agreed. LT and CB are our two needs at premium positions if we address QB

For those balking at a 2nd, what are the chances a qb in the 2nd is better than Stafford? 1%? Stafford is 32 years old, not 50. You could easily keep him playing at a high level for the 4 years you'd have a rookie qb under contract for (assuming 2nd rounder). Then save pick 8 for a bona fide stud non-qb that could be a fixture for the next 5 years. I'd be surprised if he goes for a 2nd but we would be fools not to give that.

Just release him if you can’t trade him. We still save $8M. $18M if we trade him or somewhere in between if we agree to eat some of the guaranteed salary.

That’s what I don’t understand people keep saying we are stuck we Teddy. No we’re not if you have to cut his ass damn it’s that easy if no one will trade for him

Pre-June1st it's a $20 million dollar cap hit, saving us only $3million

Post-June1st it's a $15 million dollar cap hit, saving us the $8million

Post-June, no one is FA is going to be worth it, so you might as well hold onto Teddy through his 2nd season and let him either take hits for the future starter if he's a rookie, or serve as a backup in case something happens.

Well, a $3 mil savings is still $3 mil would could roll towards 2022 rather than pay a guy that won't see the field(hopefully).

If we don't make a trade by the draft I think he's the starter day 1 unless we get Wilson. Which isn't a bad thing. Let him take the hits for the young kid, and get a good draft pick for a final year that could spring board us into the playoffs.
