The Steelers ultimately let him walk without tagging him, evrn though they had the option of doing so.

You said it always got sorted in a year or less...another false statement.

Both are (were) high profile NFL players -- apples-to-apples.

Comparing the NBA to the NFL not so much...

This is also not including any money he has made in endorsements or other typical athlete revenue streams. Yes, they may be minimal in comparison to what his annual salary would be but he could still easily net substantial amounts of endorsement or appearance money while he is sitting out. More than enough so that he would likely never have to touch what he has already made.

Nike, Beats, Verizon, Miller, DraftKings, Samsung, and on and on.

Cam Newton was pulling like 10 million a year in endorsements when he was hot.

There's $146,540,000 there for the taking...

...he's not going to decline it on principle because his feeling are hurt.

The best Sportsbook handicappers in the world don't think a single pass rusher, outside of maybe LT historically, moves a point spread more than 0.5 at most given their presence.  QBs like Watson can move a spread by more than a touchdown.  Yes he's worth ten Brian Burns by the people who know value the most

And the best GM's and coaches in the NFL do understand that a single pass rusher can make a huge impact in every game.

The fact that you are using sportsbooks as a reference for positional value really shows how little you understand about actual football.

his new deal only had 110 guaranteed I think and already has a chunk.  That much money isn't actually out there I don't think.   I would need to look it all up.

Andrew Luck walked away from like 60 mill in cash sitting out there.

Yeah but we are all making hypothetical offers anyway. We have no idea what the ACTUAL price is nor what each team is even prepared to offer.

What other teams offer at some point becomes irrelevant. We had the opportunity to snag Matt Stafford but LA outbid us. At a certain point, your price is just your price. I would rather miss out on this deal entirely than make some completely insane offer that puts us in Houston Texans territory.

I get it. You have to have your number you won’t go past.  I’m just saying I don’t think they would take your number.

I personally don’t think I would offer much more myself.

Yeah and what we offered for Matt Stafford was a very, very fair deal, IMO. So, I do have some faith that we aren't going to lose our minds and spend an absurd amount to get Watson.

All of that is likely fan/media overreaction. It may be a crazy market but that doesn't mean we as a franchise have to do crazy stuff.

Have any other teams out there been linked as hot and heavy to Watson as we have? I admittedly look at it with a biased Panthers eye, but seems to me is, the Jets and Dolphins are the 3 horses leading the race and everyone else is way back in the distance. And it seems that most of the Miami/NY talk is just because there is a perceived need and they have all those extra draft picks. But is there really a QB need with these teams? Tua showed a lot of potential in his play this year, and Darnold is not a bad QB, just on a bad, bad team thus far. Plus they are both still really cheap.

He has the $30 mil signing bonus but they will eventually be able to get all that back if he really did sit out his entire contract.

Is the 11th player Jeremy Chinn? 🤔

No, in the 10 Burns scenario, Chinn is our QB.

    • Rico walking is no big deal. I'll take a healthy 2024 Hubbard over Rico any time and losing Mays is, again, no a big deal.  Young is signed for what, $35M for the next two years? Say he wants $50M but the FO doesn't. If they put the franchise tag on him, that would be around $55? So basically they are getting Young for the next 3 years for an average of $30M per year. Putting the franchise tag on him wouldn't be my first choice but it gives them an option that wouldn't be locking him into a long term, $50M contract. I'm not suggestion they do that. Just that the option will be there should they get to that point. Hunt is on a 5 year deal which is done in 28 so he either restructures or is gone anyway. Moton will be 35 by then and will either be gone or have diminished playing time. Neither of those players has anything to do with getting Young a contract. The O line is way overpaid anyway. Hopefully by the time they are gone, Freeling and Hecht will be developed and Ickey will be healthy. Young was benched his second year and only got his job back because Dalton was injured. Not sure how you can call that entitled. And I would NOT say putting a rookie QB on a team with no receivers, tight ends or O lineman and then being put with a coach who never wanted you and is fired mid season, is a definition of luck. As far as competition, no team is going to bring in competition for a QB picked first overall - especially given the capital that was given up to get him.
    • With apologies to Lady Cowboy fan, any day we can screw over the Cowboys is a GOOD day…
    • Been here since 2014ish. Good times. Its a shame Zod wont sell, it wouldnt take that much effort to get this place back into shape.
