Verge's Draft General thread 2021

This is based on my grades when I was scouting them, as in as they entered the draft. I flip flopped all year between Herbert and Tua. Most of the year Herbert was my locked in #1 overall pick, but Burrow kind of flipped all that on it's head. I ultimately decided on Tua over Hebert by the slightest of margins just because of release time and lack of questions about offensive design. I had a serious draft crush on Herbert though.

Okay, so this is a rating that doesn't take into account the actual performance of the guys in the NFL last season?

Mac Jones is gonna make some folks look silly. I just have a feeling.

I'm like this close to dropping him below Mond. He has some really bad tape, and is hard as hell to evaluate. His ND game is what I'm watching literally right now and it is just...not good?

Not interested in debating whether a QB is going to be good or not--systems and patience play huge roles.  Most of us would have bashed Tom Brady if it was suggested we drafted him....

I am interested in Rondale Moore, a player you pitched last week, I think.  He could be there in 2nd.  I am also interested to see you are high on S Gillespie--another round 2 prospect.

I would love to hear that Moton is going to the left side and we could take Teven Jenkins and plug him in at RT on day one.  If we added 2 Gs in free agency, that could get scary.  I am also impressed that you are not too high on Cosmi--not a first rounder.

Round 2 looks good if we want value at G.

Thanks for posting this, Verge.

I disagree but you will have plenty of crow to serve if that is indeed the case.

I see scary red flags with Fields, Lance, Wilson (to a lesser degree) and Jones as well.  They all have some bad tape---and concerns.  I think we are picking them apart, but we shall see.  I do not like drafting Jones at 8, but think they might.  I do think Jones will be better than most think because he processes so quickly--but he is not the athlete Fields is and does not have the canon.  He cannot run like Lance.  I get it, but what he does well is hard to see on film because it occurs between the ear holes in his helmet.  I am not sold on any QB--the best QB draft EVER had 6 first rounders taken--3 were busts.  Three became hall of famers (1983).  When I go back and watch what I can before that draft, I am telling you, I would have never picked the 3 hall of famers out of a lineup---so I am just throwing it out there and munching popcorn.  I love this time of year.

He is either a big NO for folks or he is a top 3 QB.  Funny how polarizing he is.

The funny thing about him is that even the Lance stans(and I am largely one) can understand the criticisms of him as a prospect. The Jones stans cannot wrap their heads around why people don't like him as a prospect.

IMO, you really have to believe in that elite processing and upper tier decision making idea for him to be a top 10 prospect.

None of these guys are perfect prospects, but that isn't a big shock. I think if you line up the pros and the cons, Jones has way more cons than the rest of those other 4 guys do IMO.

I can see the argument to a higher overall floor than some of them but his ceiling is just so low. His best case range doesn't have a lot of elite QB's in it.
