If Darnold plays poorly next year, we traded what will be a 1st round pick for him.

Name an available QB who is guaranteed to have a strong 2021?  (there is not one, but I will let you throw out a name anyway)

How much would he cost?

How much would we lose if he busts?

What are you going to say if he becomes successful in Carolina?

Mariota is probably 5 times as good as Darnold and could have been gotten for a 6th round pick.

But we should have drafted a QB to be honest instead of being content with mediocrity.

Or preserved our draft capital for 2022 draft class.

The history of draft busts suddenly turning around their career because they went to a better team is pretty sparse.

People want to cite Tannehill, but he was actually pretty good in Miami if you look at his statistics.

Good QBs find a way to shine even in terrible circumstances;  we should know that with Cam Newton.

For all of the nimrods bemoaning the 'loss of a valuable pick'...NEWSFLASH:

THE PEOPLE EVALUATING PLAYERS AND MAKING OUR DRAFT PICKS ARE THE SAME PEOPLE WHO CHOSE TO USE A 2ND ROUNDER ON SAM DARNOLD.

IF YOU THINK THEY'RE IDIOTS AND GAVE AWAY A HIGH PICK, WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY'D DO IF WE'D JUST KEPT THE PICK??????

Give them a little credit or at least the benefit of the doubt through training camp. Goddamn.

Dude, you're an anonymous poster on a message board. No one's paying you to evaluate players. Your opinion on whether Mariota is better than Darnold means fug all to anyone. What are you guys smoking that makes you think your opinions carry any kind of weight?

A late first round pick, but a 1st rounder nonetheless.

If Darnold is anything like he has been the past few years for the Jets, we'll be a bottom 7 team picking at the top of the 2nd round.

If you add up the other picks we gave up with a high 2nd rounder, it has the same 'draft value' as a late 1st round pick.

So Darnold may end up costing us a late 1st rounder, and a tremendous cap hit in his 5th year.  That is quite the gamble for a quarterback who has played at his level, regardless of his coaching.

Or perhaps we'll be the 3rd worst team, and need that high 2nd round pick as draft capital to move into the top 2.

Nah it’s takes first rounders to move up for QBs especially the number one pick. If that’s the case we can just take Rattler or JT Daniels.

Look up the draft value chart for

33rd pick + 4th round pick + 6th round pick

So yes, yes it is, if Darnold is terrible again.

33th pick?

So we would have the number 1 pick aswell. And the first in every round.

What an awesome trade. 5d chess on a quantum computer type of move.

    • The good thing about replacing a bad player is you really have nothing to lose. If their replacement is bad so what, you didn't get much worse and probably saved money.
    • I came over from the old Panthers Insider site. When Fox Sports bought that platform it slowly just started dying plus the guy who ran that site was dealing with some pretty significant health issues so the whole thing just slowly fell apart. Quite a few of us migrated over here. Not sure how many are still around.  I miss that place. It struck a nice balance of having enough active posters to keep productive conversation flowing but didn't have so much traffic that you end up with a lot of trolling BS. This place is getting there though since we shutdown new registrations but at some point we're going to have to open it back up or we'll watch this place slowly die off too as posters fall off for one reason or another. We just have to figure out a way to filter out the spam bots. It was a never ending battle to ban the spam bots to keep then from overrunning the site. You'd think they'd be a little more strategic. I mean, if you fill a site with nothing but spam people are just going to stop coming so it's not a sustainable model. But nope, every one of them makes dozens of duplicate threads filling up pages upon pages as soon as their account goes live.
    • lol...I don't remember that.  Although recalling what I had for breakfast yesterday is sometimes a challenge.  Hope it was a positive thing.
