This is so dumb. If anything you address a need from a pool of worth it at X pick in the first, and go hard BPA the rest of the draft to find talent. Rhule must think he can coach up anyone.

Way to say what Rhule meant but try to prop yourself up in the meantime.

Confirmed -- Rhule said the 5th year option has NOT been picked up yet, May 3rd is the deadline, that is BIG news!!

Allows them to take a QB, and only have Sam at his cost of 4M ish for just this season if the draft falls our way.

If/when we cut Teddy, we would actually save money this year. If the right QB falls to #8, we don't pick it up, and he has $0 guaranteed, and a QB battle going on in camp.

He made a definitive statement. Much like the statements he made on the run up to panic trading for Darnold as option D after telling the entire league they wanted Bridgewater out.

You mean like the 49ers made it no secret all off season they wanted to upgrade from Jimmy G?

Or are you just gonna keep bending quotes and ignoring happenings around the leauge to fit your angry narritive.

Kinda sucks to give up a second if ur not sure about him?

Stockpile, stockpile, stockpile and eventually you have a winner.  It's like going dove hunting with a single shot round versus a scattershot round.  We went all in last year on Teddy and it backfired.  The team learned their lesson. We are not going all in on Sam.  Even if we don't draft a QB, expect us to bring in real competition for Darnold unless they are unable to move Teddy.  Grier or Walker will be holding a clipboard all season or end up elsewhere, possibly even both are out of Charlotte by the beginning of the season.

Or the patriots making it clear they’d like another option other than Cam.

Or Denver wanting to move off what’s his face.

I would add to the Darnold critics  excited about the fifth year option answer and thinking it means something, you probably shouldn't be.

Rhule didn't say that they won't, only that they hadn't yet.

There was talk they might try to rework his contract to split the difference over two years, so there may just be some finagling before it's official.

    • While I really hope things pan out for the young man, sometimes you've got to make a calculated guess on your returns. I wanted so bad to see us use our first round pick on a LB, C or TE this season, but I think this one injury changes everything. I might suggest taking the best and the second best OTs available in the draft with our first and second round picks. The injury to Icky really makes the first one a good choice and an affordable one. And Moton, who is long in the tooth, needs someone in the wings behind him.  This also means that BC is going to need to get a contract for this upcoming season both as a starter at LT and to train the younger player behind him. Also it means that we need to extend a solid contract to Cade Mays and lock him down as our Center for the next four years. Maybe Icky can recover fully and be a starting LT again, but the odds aren't in his favor. Maybe he could be back in line to play as a guard right as our current starters' contracts wind down. It's not pretty having to spend all your picks and money on the line, but it seems to be the wise investment in light of everything.
    • Unfortunate situation.  if one of the top LTs fall in the draft I think it’s a no brainer draft pick. Then if icky returns he can move to guard and replace one of our highly paid guards that are here now.
    • I dont really expect anyone to have any character or values when the system doesn't. I would respect those who did though. College Football is losing what little interest I had in it. I wasn't against giving the athletes some control but whatever this system is will kill it over time.
