Joe Person: Panthers are working hard to lay foundation for a trade back

Sam Darnold a recent draft bust is worth building around but Justin Fields can only be compared to Vince Young Michael Vick and Jamarcus Russell? I don't know what the future holds for either of these kids but this will be an interesting take to revisit in January.

You have to keep in mind some Panthers fans have been waiting a decade now for a QB with a complexion that matches their own.

I’ve got no issues taking Fields if he’s there. Great athlete and can make all the throws. Shorter Cam Newton, not as physical near the goaline. Fields is faster, ran a 4.45 40....allegedly. I’ve been rooting against him on Saturdays and I’ve saw him throw some damn ropes.

That being said if we can trade back and get Horn, Surtain, Fairley, or Newsome I’m good with that. Trade back and Slater, boy that’d be gorgeous.  Not a fan of Darrisaw. I actually prefer Cosmi and Jenkins over him and the receivers too.

Personally I think someone trades with Detroit at #7 for Fields teams will want to trade up ahead of the Panthers for Fields

I hope not.

Just once I want to get in on one of those juicy trade back deals that you see every year.

Man I'd love to be in an NFL War Room - a) cos that'd be a fun career and b) cos it'd be great to see all the opinions flying around.

I'm such a 'floor' guy that players like Walter Little just aren't on my board until laaaaate. Farley has a bunch of injury concerns so I wouldn't be high on him either.

Someone like Darrisaw I'd had to speak to everyone who's ever coached him and probably had a psychologist have a chat with him. Dude does 'just enough' on every play. I'd want to find out what that is about 'cos he has the physical / technical skills to play LT in the NFL at a high level. He's the Ying to Teven Jenkins' Yang.

To me the late rounds are where you take the fliers on potential. Early rounds I want the most productive, technically sound players that tick the boxes athletically for their position.

I hear you with the risk/reward but think both Darrisaw and Little have the LT gene compared to a lot of these other second tier linemen.

I've floated around who I like the most but those two consistently played above average to top level.

Jenkins & Vera-Tucker are next in line

Then I think you have a really good crop of dudes that are RTs/Gs.  Still could have great impact, but not the types we'd just be throwing over there on the left side day 1.

If we wind up CB in the 1st with a trade down, maybe we make a trade up for the tackle we want.  It doesn't seem to be Slater at 8.

This is going to be a really fun draft this year.  Haven't been this all over the place with who we'll grab in forever.

Guys like CMC, Star, Burns, Moore we could kind of see coming.  I have no idea this year.

Why do this to yourself?

if the panthers give the superior england Patriots a franchise QB then they are facing down the very real possibility of being the organization people laugh at come draft time because they overvalued some post round 1 garbage

this is the kind of thing the media revisits repeatedly and Kyle Brandt laughs at you for every single time So and So wins a playoff game and your really promising mid round guard washes out of the league before his second contract

I had to Google Kyle Brandt. I guess that's why I don't give a poo?

Verge, I know Drew Rosenhouse says he won't get past 20 and agents basically dictate everything, but with all the injuries and even possibly the covid thing, I could really see him slipping to our pick in round 2. Got to think at least 1 or 2 teams probably have him off their boards due to injury. FWIW I still think he goes RD 1, but imagine if we trade back snag Slater, then get Fairley and a WR in RD 2 😍......

0.0% chance he makes it to our second pick. Nice thought though 😛
