Was Joe B(rady) even in the room?

For a guy with HC aspirations he wasn't in the picture much.

They were limited on how many people were allowed in the room for covid. Im sure not many teams had coordinators or assistant coaches in their draft rooms. Top scouts and top front office guys

They were allowed, I think, ten people.

Obviously Rhule, Fitterer and Tepper were there. Other than them, I saw executive guys Matt Allen, Pat Stewart, Jeff Morrow and Samir Suleiman, scout Mike Martin, secondary coach Evan Cooper and the executive assistant lady who just retired (I forget her name).

It was Linda O'Hara who retired, she was the executive assistant to HC

It's probable they edited out any QB discussion, but it's also clear from the clips surrounding the acquisition of Sam Darnold that they a) bought into the age thing and b) compared him to the QBs coming out in the draft. They are all in on Darnold. Let's hope that was the right decision.

The other name you didn't see at all was Rashawn Slater...

it all is heavily edited to paint a specific picture.  Still cool.

But even take Rhule's board at the beginning.  He lists who they think likely drafted ahead of them....and then on the other side a cluster of guys they want to discuss.   But even that is edited and they don't show you everything said.

and you know that because it cuts away from Rhule as he is in the process of writing the two Bama WRs....to a cut of him stepping away from the board.  They edited out something.   And you can pause it as he steps back and see he added something underneath the Bama WRs.  It's blurry though.  Can only guess.    It like the half second between the 6:22 and 6:23 mark.  But they added something.  2 more names? A thought.  Whatever it was, they didn't want it in the video.   But it was important enough to make the board...

definitely doesn't look like Slater though.

Good catch. The last one definitely looks like Fields.

Yeah but it looks like “fields /“ I have to assume after the “/“ is “jones”

I think they were planning their emergency picks or drops backs.

could be.  Trade downs in the first.  Fields/Jones.  First one could be the Ole Miss WR but spelled with an A?  They had both Bama WRs up there so they clearly were entertaining a WR in the first.

But it sure does look like Fields.  Which matches the reporting.  People wanted him in the building.

and it would make sense to edit that out to push the Sam is the dude narrative post draft.

But that makes no sense that they would blur it out if it was Fields.

I mean...this vid came out AFTER the draft was over and Sam wasn't exactly watching Panthers Confidential or what-have-you anyway as he was surely busy moving to Carolina.

In fact, you can say that even if Sam did see they had Fields on their list, their decision to draft Horn basically cemented that he was THE GUY.

I mean, something was clearly deemed important enough to make the board and discussion...and they seem to have made a decision it wasn't something that should make the video.    Maybe Rhule thought he would add his Taco Bell lunch order in the section about first round picks.  Who knows.

Could also just mean we really suck at corner and the new GM really values corner coming from the LOB/Seattle.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
