How much of the Jets performance was really on Darnold?

I'm not a USC fan.

In fact, I'm 43 years old and can count on one hand throughout my entire life the number of times I've watched a College Football Game.

And I can direct you to the Jets website (a website called The Hampur; New York Jets Hampur, that is) where I have over 18,000+ posts under the name vin (with a Vinny avatar).    So don't assume what I am or am not based on post-count on this board when I just started.

I told you and everyone else that I came here because I believed the Jets did Sam dirty and decided to finally leave that franchise for good because of it.  It's not so much I'm a Darnold fan as it is that I want Sam to succeed here and then stomp a mudhole in the Jets by doing so in Week 1 and by being successful here in Carolina also the rest of the way.

It's basically SPITE that drives me.  FK THE JETS!

You left the Jets for the Panthers? Lol

They have actually had 11 winning seasons since 1995(last in 2015 at 10-6) and 7 playoff appearances.

Sooooooo........that statement kind of applies to us too, right?

It’s funny how this fanbase has no self awareness, always nagging on the Jets and jags...lol but but the Panther lost 2 Super Bowls!! And the Jets lost two conference games...does one game REALLY matter with no SB wins? Not really.

Panthers can only look deep into the bottom of the barrel for any relief.

Going into my 26th year as a fan just hoping for two winning seasons in a row.

Like the Jets were anything to write home about.....  🙄

And yeah I'm well aware that the Panthers under the OLD Ownership/Management gave the Jets Franchise a run for its money....but I think with new ownership/Management here, I believe I've left the Jets and came here at the RIGHT TIME.   🙂

Oh I know. After 2015 I woukd defend us vigorously as a franchise because our overall all-time record was good, our accomplishments were stout. Then came the decline of the last five seasons(minus 2017). Now our all-time record is quickly sliding to the cellar, our winning seasons percentage is sliding to the cellar, and we have still yet to have back to back winning seasons. Eventually I started to realize that we were historically a bad franchise.

Which ones?

At age-35 Testaverde did take Jets to AFC Championship in his 1st season with the franchise but it was his 13th year in the League and stop #4 on the train ride

As for Tannehill, year-8 in NFL and 2nd year with Titans...first time in 8-seasons he won more than 8-games.

Your making up stupid criteria to prove a point.  Many guys have not been good at one place and then went on to be good at another.

There was this guy named Brees that sucked so bad in San Deigo in year 3 that they had the 1st pick in the draft and they drafted Manning/Rivers because they thought they needed a QB.  Then in year 4 he became Drew Brees.  Kerry Collins was good in year 2 here, then sucked in year 3, and year 4 said his heart was not in it and got cut.  He was pretty good in NY.

It has happened and just making up rules to prove your point makes you looks like a little crybaby who has to prove he is right.

I warned everyone that would listen that bring Marty back would destroy any hope of having a winning team.  But nooooo!  Hurney 2.0 is killing they said, He's the greatest they said.

I hope this next crew is better. The 2020 results from the draft look pretty good. Two good starters(potentially long term) and a starter to key backup guy.

If we can get two good starters and another potential starter out of the 2021 draft, they might make me a believer.

He's making the tiniest and most awkward hoops to climb through to "prove" why Darnold won't work under this belief that his approval is needed. Not worth the bother.

It has happened...

Au contraire...simply looking for a precedent, haven't found one yet.

Brees, a 2nd round pick, was 30-28 overall in San Diego and was a Pro Bowl QB (65.5% COMP, 27 TD, 7 INT) his last season there (5th)...that's the opposite of "not good" and "only failed".

Collins was 22-16 in his first 3 seasons (Sam was 13-25) with Carolina including a NFC Championship Game appearance in 1996...again, the opposite of "not good" and "only failed".

Who/where/when?

Look, I am eager to see Sam rise from the ashes like a phoenix but the cockeyed optimism for him doing so seems misplaced and harkens to Billy Mumphrey...

Fact of the matter is the league is filled with stories of players making a move and improving.  Google it yourself.   You will probably rule out the stories for some stupid reason or another...he played too long, he wasn't AS bad...it was another team besides the jets...he wasn't top 3... he had different hair color...

IT. DOESN'T.  MATTER.  The dataset is to small and unique to make inferences.

The jets sucked.  It wasn't all Darnold.  This fall we will find out how much.
