Cam Newton: “It’s really put-up or shut-up time”

This is Panthers related because I'm posing a question that has to do with the Panthers ...

Say Cam does 'put up' this season as he calls it, in the form of an MVP caliber season or Super Bowl win ..

He's on a one year deal. In this scenario he would be in line for a nice contract.

NE took a QB pick 15 this draft. In this scenario does NE let Cam leave as a FA, electing not to pay him and let Jones take the reigns? or was Cam so good that in Bill's mind he has to pay him?

If NE elects not to pay Cam and they let him become a FA, how does Cam coming back to CLT coming off an MVP, Super Bowl win season sound?

What would you pay Cam coming off an MVP season?

Yeah it is. We have Sam Darnold, and our franchise QB is going to be a FA after this season, who's likely going to be coming off a great season, and in the OP scenario is .. so what kind of contract do we offer Cam to return .. a Cam coming off an MVP caliber season?

People are probably gonna poo all throughout this thread, but if i took that question seriously...

There's no way the Panthers bring Cam back for anything other than retirement. We are a young team and have a FO looking for a QB of the future. If Sam doesn't work I see draft as the only option.

Nah.  Unfortunately Cams throwing shoulder is shot, and its never coming back.  He used to have a Howitzer for a right arm, now he has a snub nosed .38.  Sad but true.  I was and still am a gigantic Cam Newton fan, but that ship has sailed.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
