Grier or PJ

Did you hear Rhule's comments about receivers not getting separation.  You would rather Grier to throw into coverage for a possible interception?  Or do what the defense is giving you.  There is a difference between not throwing deep to a open target, ie Bridgewater, and throwing into coverage for an incomplete or interception.

PJ's TD was intended for a different receiver.   It just happened that Tremble came across and stole it.   Had Tremble not been in the right place at the right time.  That pass is picked off or incomplete because it was not on target.   Please don't make it sound as if he was targeting Tremble.  They even commented on who the pass was initially for.

Meh, play was made. Grier is not capable that level of play, athleticism wise.

Not a big fan of either, but if I had to choose I would go with PJ. I feel like they are pretty equal in throwing though Greer might have a slight edge, so you have to look at other characteristics like athletic ability and production in other leagues. I feel like PJ has the most upside of the 2.

I don't trust either one to win a game, but maybe PJ has less of a chance to lose the game.

Except PJ has won a game and the only one to score in this preseason as of yet.

He was beat but the ball was behind him and would have been picked off or incomplete.  PJ got lucky.  PJs shot to Shi Smith against the Colts that would be considered deep.  Grier's shot to Marshall was considered deep against Ravens.

I noticed you didn't recognize the comment about receivers not getting separation against Ravens.  That's being smart and not forcing things.   The difference for Grier is.  He has the arm to make those throws. TB5 didn't.

Grier looked more like a reasonable backup compared to PJ.  Grier did better than PJ with the same squads.

That said, I'd still rather have a veteran signed to backup Darnold but who I would choose would be Grier.

Grier doesnt thrown deep because hes not good at that. Ever since 2019 when he came onto the team, hes been basically TEDDY bridgewater. Dont try to make Grier to be something he isn't because of your dislike of PJ Walker.

One I don't dislike PJ.  Secondly that's BS he can't throw deep.  He hit Marshall in stride down the sideline.

You have more excuses for PJ than you insist I do for Grier.

“He won a game”

He beat the lions who was worse than us when our defense shut them out. He also threw 2 picks in the process.

This is such a bum excuse.

Yes I tried to convince him that Grier, who I am not a big fan of, is better than PJ and runs the offense better.

For some reason I thought it was 4 picks.   The heck with 2 ints.  How about a 24.5 QBR.

PJ completed 70% of his passes in his NFL start.   would have been 79% if you factor the drops.

QBR is QBR.  It was what it was simply because off of two red zone throws.  Which IMO were very poor play calls and positions to put PJ in (you know, back up QB making his first start). Then on top of that, as Teddy alluded to....even the first string QB was put behind the 8 ball in those scenarios.

Nothing wrong with thinking PJ isn't a great QB.  But he played well vs the Lions all things considered.  Two things can be true.

I like PJ a lot but Grier looked better vs the Ravens and his arm looks stronger too.

And PJ looked better against the Colts.  In truth, both our backups looked better when they played in the first half, which might be due to the personnel they had around them.

Fwiw, PJ is more mobile, which might be a necessity if our line is as bad as some think.

But I agree with Zod.  If Darnold goes down more than a game or two, we are looking at another long season.

    • Please don't tell me you just averaged the QB ratings of all of Shough's starts to declare his QB rating as better 😂 I hope you don't actually believe that's how it works.  Otherwise please show your math on Shough's QB rating as a starter. Thanks for including Shough's 2.6 more Rushing YPG in this comparison, really doesn't feel at all like you're desperately grasping for as many straws as you can here. The truth is, it takes a statistical bottom-tier starting QB like Bryce Young to make Shough look simply OK by comparison.  And that bottom-tier starting QB still, by your own admission, puts up more points for his offense than Shough.  You're framing this as damning for Bryce, but in reality the fact that him and Bryce are so neck-and-neck is shining Shough in a very poor light. Yes Shough is a rookie and Young is a 3rd year starter, which is why I circle back to my position of Shough having a "pretty solid, encouraging rookie season" whereas you're fanboying over him.  Never mind that Shough is 2 years older than Bryce though.  Normally yes a QB's experience in the league is invaluable...but Bryce is kind of a unique situation considering the biggest complaint with him is he is too physically limited to succeed in the league.  Do we think a QB can overcome severe physical limitations simply with experience?  Also I remember wayyyy back (/s) when we cared so much about DJ Johnson being an older rookie and our standard for them being that they're more NFL-ready and able to contribute sooner rather than later.  But now all of a sudden Shough is just a poor little 26-year-old rookie on an awful team.  Seriously...the way you frame everything around Shough is straight out of a fanfic.  Constantly referencing with tears in your eyes how he's succeeding against all odds on such an awful team.  Meanwhile the Saints' D is 14th in PPG and their offense (led by Shough) is 29th in PPG.  Telling me how the Saints managed a win on Shough's shoulders against the Jets last week who put up...*checks notes*...6 points against the Saints' D.  Yes god bless the savior Shough who willed his team to victory against those juggernauts led by Brady Cook.  Never mind how Taysom Hill threw as many touchdowns in 1 passing attempt as Shough did in 49 passing attempts.  Yikes.
    • Who's gonna drop the gloves? I can't think of a single player on this team that can fight. Period. Much less get the best of an opposing player. Please.
    • as a starter, Shough is better this year in all the aspects I shared with you.  Facts. You disputed nothing I said because I’m talking starts and my numbers are right
