I never thought those were counting against a kicker anyway so its a bit surprising if it was...like who tf actually puts that on the kicker...would actually be a knock against them if so. Should, at that distance, be a great if you do no worries if you don't make it.

They still count as misses.

and like I said if you consistently keep asking him to make circus kicks to win games or tie them late (which we did both) …..I would think there begins to be an expectation that he will then make some of them that starts to sink in.  Kicking is a head game.

I don’t mind the rare circus kick for fun.  I think we started doing it too much.

Right I know they count against your actual FG % what I mean was in terms of the coaching staff holding it against him.

Yeah... That's a really stupid take.

The coaching staff is not setting up their own players for failure.

Coaches set guys up to fail all the time.   I didn’t say it was intentional and they planned it out that way.   Was Darnold set up to fail by NY? Was it deliberate?

We continuously asked Joey Slye to go make 65+ kicks to win and tie games.   I doubt that trotting him out there to miss helped him….especially now in hindsight.

You see more Hail Marys actually work than you do 65+ yarders go down.  See plenty  Hail Marys work every season.   But we deemed Syle the best option.  Eventually those don’t just become for shits and giggles when your team keeps going to you…to win/tie it late.

Did they catch Verity torturing small animals during the joint practices or something?  I just don't get it.  We released a guy with a better FG percentage despite his struggles, field a guy in week 1 who hit the upright in the preseason and then missed an XP in week 1 while playing against another kicker we cut in the preseason who turned into an all-world punter, only to release the guy we started to sign a guy we cut in the offseason who has been a trainwreck as a pro and has been on as many teams as Kim K has been on penises.

UHHHH, yes.

Sounds deliberate the way it's worded.

You have the ability to choose how you want interpret anything you read on the internet.    And some are way too over protective of Matt Rhule.

I simply think in hindsight, with a kicker that got in his own head…..we probably shouldn’t of kept asking Joey to do the impossible so routinely.   Throw the Hail Mary.  It has better odds.  We treated Joey as the best odds.

In the end you got a kicker taking the L….because you gotta think every time Syle believed he should of made it.

What if our kicking coach *is* a Magic 8 Ball?

lol

We dont. Few teams do.

That surprises me honestly because it seems like it's b a good idea.

Never even thought about that, always figured it was under special teams.

They were trying to win games. It's not a psychology seminar.

The guy can either do it or he can't. In this case, turns out he can't.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
