I was born and raised in Boone and my dad still lives there although I haven't in almost 15 years. App State obviously reigns supreme but I never had any problem finding plenty of Panther fans around.

Boone is a football town though due to App State. Kinda like how the Hornets rode the coattails of tobacco road basketball in NC. Boone is a lot different than most of WNC.

What were they?

I was on an airplane at game time so wasn't able to watch but did hear there were lots of empty seats -- is this accurate?

If attendance was way down what's the suspected reason/s why?

Chiefs-Browns was standing room only...

UGa vs. Clemson at Panthers Stadium was also SRO.

I saw some complaints about the players intros being out of sync, some food concessions were closed and another about the TopCats performance.

Oh, I'm aware that Boone is unique to WNC. Just wanted to give my 2 cents on the WNC narrative. There's pockets of NFL support for various reasons but for the most part the majority of WNC is economically agrarian and rural so no one cares about pro sports at all.

Rural for sure but I wouldn't say economically agrarian. I would probably just leave it at plain old economically depressed, like most of the rest of southern Appalachia.

    • I need to actually do a full analysis but I think the issue was more that we'd rarely have top-to-bottom awesome drafts but we'd frequently have drafts where only 2-3 players panned out, but the 1st is a Pro Bowler and the other two solid starters or backups. We rarely had drafts where only 1 player was good, and we never had absolute useless drafts. At the very least we always had one really, really good guy. The worst was probably 2005 where we got Thomas Davis (Hall of Honor-quality player) and Geoff Hangartener. Evan Mathis was good, but only after he left.
    • Hurney wasn’t good with contracts but I think he was probably above average at drafting.  Not saying he was great.  Just that most draft classes are worthless.
    • Ehh, teams earlier this season double and tripled teamed him with decent success. The reason he beasted out so much with Miami was for some reason they did not much at all. Bad call on their part. But that is his purpose. If he is eating up people that is huge, and theoretically should give others the ability to make a play. But his surrounding cast to do that isn’t great. Brown is something OCs have to put a lot of time to plan for.
