Our RBs not named CMC suck.

Running backs are supposed to be a dime a dozen but we cannot find one that can spell CMC and actually do their job. Tons of people were tossing around ideas of CMC being overpaid, but without him chances are we are not 2-0.

Week 1 CMC picks up Sheldon Rankins, 6-2 305lb DL, so Sam can hit the TD to Robby.

Week 2 Royce Freeman gets blown up by Bradley Roby , 5-11 194lb CB, and allows Sam to be sacked on 3rd down.

Since RBs are so easy to be had why can we not find one worth 2 cents to spell CMC? It is a shame when our RB1 comes off the field we basically cannot move the ball at all.

The oline is bad at run blocking, good enough pass blocking.  IMO, that has to improve to help all the RBs to excel and minimize wear and tear and injury.  I worry about CMC.

I do too, if he goes down we are pretty much fuged on offense.

Im not talking about the running part of being a RB. Any RB can go in there and run for 3-4 yards, im talking about a guy that can handle all the responsibilities at least half way decent.

There are very few RB's out there that can hold up in pass pro on a consistent basis...those are the guys you never see leave the field.....again rare.

Chubba is gonna take a WHILE to learn to do it at a decent clip, and the Line needs to learn how to move their guys...they can't yet.

RBs that can pass block are rare especially young ones. It’s basically not done or taught in college especially in spread systems so most come into the league with no clue how to do it.

Maybe if our OL ever gets sorted out it will not be as bad. Then we may not need TEs and RBs to help block as much.

I have a feeling the running game is going to pick up soon. CMC is just so explosive and has elite vision he can gain some yards behind this line. I think once Rhule and company figure out the right combination and Brown and Brady become more involved, our running game will improve in all facets. It’s going to need to if we want to make some legitimate noise this year.

It takes time to learn to pass block. It wasn't always a strength of CMCs, either.  Given the state of the OL we need to be a bit patient there. I think these guys can get it together with reps. They will never be CMC, but they don't need to be.

So Chuba should be out there to try and learn to pass block since we had the lead and were trying to rest CMC? Royce is in his 4th season, I doubt he is going to get it if he does not have it now.

I guess the coaches thought he could handle the pass blocking better than a rookie, but that was not the case.

You are always going to need RBs to block. A RBs need to block really has nothing to do with how good the OL is because they aren’t there to cover for OL mistakes. RBs are needed to block based on the number of rushers and where they are coming from. Any DC can dial up a pressure that forces a RB to be a blocker just by sending blitzers.

The offense really only has two choices, hit a hot route before the extra rusher gets home or block the extra rusher with a RB.

I agree with this. The best play Kamara made against us last weekend was picking up a block on Brian Burns. Kamara got run the phuk over but it was a great play. CMC, Kamara and a few others are the exception

    • Roger all that. Do you think BY avoided any sacks last game? This oline is not what you're touting them to be. They are much better then 2023! Much much much better than 2023. But come on now, you'd expect this expensive oline (most are run blocking specialist) to at least dominate in the run game every game.  And... I keep telling you our WRs and TEs are not that good yet. I mean last Sunday was a prime example. Our receiving targets never make plays like those. Never. And this is from one of the worst teams in the league. Shough could have easily had 3 INTs if not for his receivers making plays on the ball. Our guys just don't do that. XL almost allowed an INT backing up out of bounds instead of coming to the ball. And everyone would have blamed that on BY. That's why he doesn't throw to that dude. I can't recall a game except maybe the second Falcons game - maybe, where I thought our receivers could possibly be better than the other team's. I think TMac and Coker have a lot of potential. But they're aren't consistent. But they're young and WILL improve. I'm confident of that.  I don't agree that BY was drafted to only stand in the pocket. He has always been best off schedule - for better or worse.
    • Do you think you will get a direct answer?  Icky giving up 5 pressures (playing hurt in his defense) by himself and Bryce only getting sacked once tells you he played well in the pocket.  He extended plays and converted some tough downs.
    • I've been very apprehensive about potentially firing yet another head coach. But Canales needs to focus on being a head coach first and foremost and begin handing off some responsibilities like playcalling duties and begin overseeing the entire team or we need to assess all possible ideal HC candidates in the offseason.
