Let's keep the Monday feels rolling:

So if I'm reading today correctly...

 

The Panthers net:

The 2020 #9 Overall Pick + A 2022 5th Rounder

Jaguars net:

Dan Arnold (A 2021 FA pickup, 2 yr $6 mil, 4.5 guaranteed contract) + A 2022 3rd Rounder

 

In other words: Mr. Meyer, I'm a bit unsure what you're doing. 

Yeah, maybe Henderson was struggling (I didn't see it, maybe it's a team personality deal) but he'd been there just over a year, barely removed from the 2021 draft where we did major due diligence on him and liked him a lot (per later rumblings that week or so before the draft).  And have coaches familiar with him. 

Also for context, the Jags shipped away Schobert to PIT for a 6th rounder who has been GREAT with some new scenery this Fall.  

So: We sign a journeyman TE, trade him and a 3rd for the 9th overall pick last year (2nd CB taken) +a 5th.  I distinctly remember growing buzz around Simmons VS. Brown but then Henderson's name got more and more buzz as a legit possibility/brought into the convo.  Well, looks like we ended up with BOTH him and Derrick Brown.  And what do we lose? A journeyman TIGHT END we didn't have at the time on a cheap contract and a 3rd rounder lol. 

Even if he's average, this is such a win.  I mean, if Jaycee can come back post-week 14ish:

Horn, Bouye, Donte, CJ, Chinn...this secondary is BEYOND dirty, and behind such a force of a front-7.  I doubt a single team in the league will be looking forward to playing us if CJ even close to shows out.  And it's not like he's some flailing bust. 

He was okay in his games played last year.   Henderson is healthy after last year and just played 100% of JAX's d snaps last week.  Fresh and healthy and should be ready to rock (with some playbook adjustment)

IF he proves to be the prospect people hoped he would be AND Jaycee Horn returns healthy next year and is the prospect we hope/believe he can be, suddenly we have by far the greatest secondary Carolina has ever fielded. Two CBs drafted in the top 10 just one year apart (insanely young and on rookie deals) along with a superstar safety. Add to the fact Jackson is playing awesome, Shaq is playing awesome and we have an incredible Dline with two nearly unstoppable pass rushers... our defense in the next few years could be absolutely unbelievable. This could be the beginning of what could be the most feared defense in the league in a couple years time.

If these coaches really can coach up players to help them reach the next level. The potential of this defense is genuinely unreal.

I agree.  It's by far and away more talent than even in 2003-2005.  Just super exciting.  Can't believe how aggressive we're getting at it without even losing a ton.  With Fit, I'm sure we'll figure out a way to get back a 2nd oe 3rd next year.  

Looking at 03'-Peppers, Rucker, Jenkins, Buckner, Morgan, Spoon, Minter, Grant sure.  Holy hell, legendary defense right there, even in respect to the modern league.  But We had to still deal with Cousins and Howard.  This is as ferocious of a front-7 with a (potentially) better secondary.

      At the moment? Absolutely not. Maybe if they drop the next three in a row and go into the deadline at 3-6 I can see an argument to be made to move Rico as he's on a 1yr deal. I'd rather keep Chuba's contract though and roll with ETN + JB next season. The team will have plenty of time to see how JB is looking going into the offseason a year-plus after his surgery to know whether or not they need to plan for another direction.

      I forgot to mention my thoughts on the rushing grade! 😮 He ran his ass off both weeks. I can't remember the stat offhand but didn't he have something crazy like 120+ yards after contact vs. Dallas? Against Miami he had lanes as wide as the entirety of I-95 to run through which is why his rushing grade wasn't as high as this week's. He's ran like a man possessed and going to earn himself some money in the offseason.

      I'm not sure how much I'm changing mid year, especially when we are seeing some success.    Most Pass Rushers are physically gifted. Scheme and personnel help, but you gotta have the Jimmys and Joes, especially at that position.    We will likely lose games when the other team can throw for 400 yards, and has multiple high level receivers, but I think at this point in the development of our franchise, we have to be ok with that. You can't address every single issue at once. Really looks like we have plugged some holes on offense, and definitely in run defense. In the next draft, if we hit on a CB, an ILB and a Pass rusher, we will be pretty dangerous.
