3rd Quarter - 43.3%, 164 yds, 0 TD, 3 INTs, 21.4 rating

4th Quarter - 73.6%, 302 yds, 2 TDs, 114.1 rating

I'd say have Darnold sit out the third quarter but Walker would probably be even worse than that

Man, but think about what his average stats were per Quarter in a Jets uniform. Irrelevant so to say, but man our coaching staff has done an amazing job with this kid considering he has just about the same OL production from the jets

I know some people hate hearing the "treat him like a rookie" line, but that approach actually seems to be working.

I think that whole thing ended about when CMC went out. 

They have to slowly let him open up more & more. Cause teams are starting to notice that we are throwing a DJ Moore comeback route at least 5 times a game and 3 of them will be on 3rd downs. Granted that will change some when CMC comes back. They just didn't seemed "fooled" anymore in the third QTR, and they were playing "control the lead" (couldn't think of the word/phrase i wanted here) football in the 4th when we were making a lil comeback

That’s a pretty weird stat/coincidence.

What are other possible reasons? Getting out coached after adjustments? Late adjustments? Oline taking a longer break? How many sacks/pressure come in the third I wonder…

It appears the entire team shits the bed in the 3rd quarter.  They managed to weather the storm in the first 3 games, until they met Dallas.  Something is amiss in the locker room at halftime.

We seem to just "stick with whats working" until it doesn't, then take a few series after opponents half time adjustments to make our own...

That was one thing I was hoping would get left behind when we parted ways with Fox and Rivera but it looks like it's still here.

The smarter coaches play it like chess players. They try to anticipate adjustments the other team is going to make and act accordingly.

Biggest thing I have seen from Darnold is his lack of pocket awareness - his is very poor at stepping up and feeling the rush around him.  he has been extremely lucky not to have more fumbles lost.  Our line has been just OK in pass protection at times but Sam can do more to help it.

But I agree we seem to get outcoached at the half and struggle to adjust.  

In fairness this past week one of those picks was Diggs making a great route jump and Darnold thought he could get it there faster - mistake but not one other guys wouldn't make.  The first pick was a bad but could be learned from

How exactly do you step up when the guys in front of you are getting pushed back into your face?

From a development standpoint I would agree. 

Problem though, is with a rookie you have 3-4 years to decide if they are worth a big contract, with Sam you better have a pretty good idea after this season.

What we gave up for Sam isn't that big of a deal, what we will have to give up to keep him will be a lot more.

Honestly at this point I don't know if anyone knows for sure.

Sam does have his issues in the third, buy it's a whole team effort... or lack thereof in the third. They come out in the 2nd half flat on both sides of the ball. 

I don't know what they do in  that locker room during the half, but it isn't filling them with a sense of urgency.

It's almost like they take a nap during halftime and use the 3rd to wake up. 

All other quarters they are damn solid. It's just coming out of that half that they sleep walk. 

Overcoming that is going ng to be the thing that makes them a championship team, even with a bad OL.

Our OLine has been "ok"?  On which planet?  Our OLine has been all kinds of awful in the run and pass game.  It's little short of a miracle that Sam is playing as well as he is.

Those third quarter stats are frankly eye popping.  Especially because in the other three quarters Sam Darnolds stats look like a bona fide franchise QB.  73.5% completion, 1000 yards, 5 TD, 0 INT.  Yes please.

If we can get him playing four quarters at that clip, we have a SB in our future.  Real talk.
