The deep ball

The biggest issue I see with Sam is the inability to connect on the deep ball. A lot of other stuff have been discussed in other threads.

Super hard with the interior pressure in the last game, totally get it, but the lack of that threat allows the opponent corners to sit on a lot of routes.

I’m still trying to stay optimistic about Sam, but until he connects on a couple of deep throws, the opposing defense will have a much easier time shutting down the short to intermediate stuff.

Did he always struggle with the deep ball? I know he has the arm for it.

Not enough time to throw the deep ball. I think the blueprint teams are using against us is rush 4 and pressure inside. If Sam doesnt have a pocket to step into, its hard to deliver a deep ball.

Rhule has mentioned we have been calling deep shots, but we are unable to get the QB the time he needs to throw it. The other piece is that yesterday Eagles ran 2 high almost the entire game. Corners play underneath and safeties over the top. It was tough to watch.

The love affair with Carolina OCs and long developing routes astounds me.

Anything beyond 15 yards is clearly outside the guys capabilities at this time.

Love Brady, but he really needs to take a step back and realize what he’s working with in Sam and this shitty OL.

The oline has gotten him beat up but he has had opportunities on some long throws and he could not capitalize. When was the last time we had a successful deep pass other than the one to Robby against the Jets? The main reason Sam Darnold was supposed to be an upgrade over the last quarterback was his arm talent. Is it Joe? Is it Sam? Are the qb and receivers not on the same page? Whatever the reason it has to change.

There’s a myth out there that Darnold has the great arm and he has a good deep ball. I want to know who invented it, cause Darnold arm is middle of the pack and his deep ball has always been atrocious. The only time the jets threw it deep was when Flacco started games.
