Sam Darnold can’t throw the ball past the line of scrimmage.

And he does seem to learn from his mistakes and deals better with crunch time pressure.

Not sure if he will ever be elite, but the number of elite qb's is so small, that the odds of getting one are very slim.

That’s a good point. In literally one game he showed he is more clutch in the playoffs than Sam has to date. That could of course change today.

lol @ bumping this thread thinking it's some kind of gotcha.

Nobody ever doubted Darnold's physical abilities as a passer.

Legitimately that throw that Sam Darnold made from his own end zone at the end of the game against the Vikings to Ian Thomas of all people is as good or better than any throw Bryce Young has made in his career so far.

Any “gotcha” you are perceiving is your own insecurity talking. I don’t remember where op stands on Bryce Young, nor do I care. Everybody making this exclusively about Bryce Young is way over defensive…gotta wonder why. I just searched Darnold because I was looking for my own opinions of Darnold at the time we had him because I honestly couldn’t remember everything. Noticed the thread title is the same type of rhetoric we’ve had for years over many different QBs, and pointed out that the QBs have proven at this point it wasn’t just a QB problem. Thought we could have more discussion on what the problem has been outside of the QB because I’m honestly having a hard time pinpointing it since like I said it has been a problem spanning QBs, coaches, GMs, etc. Shoulda known better with this group.

One QB has led teams to 14 wins and 15 wins in consecutive seasons and an actual human being is arguing a QB who was swept by the rebuilding Saints led by a rookie 2nd round pick is more clutch.

You bumped a thread from 4 years ago about throwing downfield but this isn't about Bryce Young....

He had one game in the playoffs, and that last drive was anything but clutch. However, if it wasn't for the epic collapse of the Bucs, the Saints not starting Shough earlier in the season, or the Falcons bailing us out with a win we couldn't get ourselves, there is no playoff game.

Yay, we made the playoffs at 8-9. That ain't happening every year. You gotta be clutch during the season too and we didn't see that. To be clutch in the playoffs you have to get there. Bryce's performance this year is taking no one there except in the NFCS on a really bad year.

Criticize Darnold all you want, but he wasn't the one sitting on the couch cheering on another team to get him there, because he failed badly to get us there when he needed to be "clutch." You may not consider him clutch in the playoffs, but he's gotten 2 teams there, both with very good records too.

It's an unpopular opinion, but I think if you can't win your division with a winning record you shouldn't be in the playoffs unless by some miracle your wildcard record gets you in. It's just another participation trophy if you do.

I mean you are literally the only one posting in this thread in 2026 saying anytbing about young.

The poster who bumped the thread has gone out of his way to be vocally defensive of Bryce Young for years. Try to keep up or don't quote me.

🙄 sorry I don't follow every posters Bryce young stance, I'm not a fan myself but I think you see Bryce young in your nightmares when your taking a dump, out the window at work.... as obsessed as some are with being his biggest fan boys you are just as bad about not being one.

I get things can be hard sometimes. Clearly you realize the thread title is basically word for word what some people have said about Bryce Young in the past (maybe you, judging by your reaction, though I honestly don’t remember or care). Did you read my post or did you just react immediately? Serious question. It’s as much about Bryce Young as any of the QBs, coaches, etc. that have been a part of a problem for years. It’s about a problem that was here before Bryce Young. I know you see anything Bryce Young related and it all goes red but if you could put any effort at all into reading and understanding I think it would be a welcome change for a lot of us judging by some of the reaction you are getting.

Let me ask without including Bryce Young as part of the list since I know that is a sore subject: if we couldn’t push the ball downfield with Darnold, Baker, Rhule, Brady, Mcadoo, Bridgewater, Reich, Wilks, Brown, Fitterer, Hurney, etc. then why? What was the common underlying problem, if there was one? Challenge yourself to not say anything about Bryce Young. I know this might be tough.

He has no actual idea what my Bryce Young stance is he just lumps everybody who disagrees with him, regardless of reason, into one bin. If you attempt reason and nuance, or you don’t start with “I hate Bryce Young” and then proceed from that starting point, to people like frank you are a Bryce stan. Sorry, I mean “carrying water” as he’ll repeat over and over. He’s also accused me of “carrying water” for Tepper even though I hate Tepper and pretty much everything he’s done and represents, just because I don’t blanket blame him for everything much like Bryce Young.

Comparatively Teddy Bridgewater is basically the best QB we've started in 6 years. And that was with Matt Rhule whom everyone agrees was a trashcan and a conman.

The consistent theme under the ownership of the Tepper's has been us hiring bad coaches and largely making bad personnel decisions.

You pretending like you didn't bump this with the intent of carrying water for your guy in some capacity is just ridiculous. Cmon.
