Senior Bowl QB's

This would actually be a good year for us to coach the senior bowl again because a lot of the top QB's look to be attending.

My Top 3

1. Kenny Pickett- Is the most Pro ready QB in this year's class but his sudden massive improvement over his previous seasons is a topic that needs to be discussed. However, the tape doesn't lie, and the tape shows that he's worthy of a 1st RD pick. I think he projects to be around a Kirk Cousins, Derek Carr, Ryan Tannehill level QB.

2. Malik Willis- Will need the most development out of the top 3 QB's in the class but he is the only QB this year that flashes superstar QB ability. His throw against Middle Tennessee at around 2:25 in the 2Q is the best throw of any QB this year.

3. Sam Howell- With the injury to Matt Corral I think Sam now slides into the number 3 spot. He did have a down 2021 season, but he lost a lot of his weapons on Offense and the UNC Offensive line was atrocious. As the draft process starts up, I feel that his stock is set to rise.

I know based on recent reports that it looks like we are going to try and go after a veteran QB in the offseason I highly doubt that unless the want to rerun next year with Cam that we will be able to acquire one. We lack the spare cap space and draft assets that are need in order for us to get a veteran QB.

Couldn’t agree more. Not very mobile, but seem to have everything else you look for.

His mobility and knee are the two flags. But you can’t deny his deep ball and accuracy coming from one of the more advanced college systems. If his knee checks and let’s say he was in the last draft, I’d take him ahead of Mac Jones.

I was thinking the same thing, a Mac Jones with a great arm. Which is pretty darn good.

I’m interested to see Pickett at this event.  He has good film.  Which that’s what matters.

And while we’re talking massive improvements.  The top pick in 2020 made just as big a leap.  Joe Burrow looked like a rd 6-7 guy prior to his final season.  And he had crazy weapons around him.  So,  really interested to see Pickett at this event.

Most interested in hearing about Willis, Zappe, and Strong. See how they handle the step up in competition level and look with a stronger supporting cast. I've already formed my opinion on Howell, Ridder, and Pickett.

I want to know more about Zappe.  What is your opinion on Ridder?

Zappe has put up absolutely video game numbers. I wanna see him against better competition and with better surrounding cast.

I put Ridder in that Kellen Mond)Davis Mills bucket as a prospect. Probably a backup, but maybe a developmental starter. Late 2nd/early 3rd range IMO.

Mond is the example I was looking for---that is about what I thought.

    • So, objectively, you'd say from a holistic review of Rico's performance and the team overall there were at least a dozen players on the team that performed at least as well if not better in their roles?
    • I'm not a huge fan of BY, but he does have some clutchness developing
    • While you're correct, people are just sick of being told, "you don't understand this, you're dumb" despite what their eyes say. This applies to the Panthers and anything else in life. This board can be a miserable place, but this isn't the old days anymore because Social Media & Reddit have hijacked old-school forum users.  I have in the last year or so taken a massive step back from Social Media & Reddit. Deleted accounts on both, I only have X/Twitter now. But I was looking for an outlet for Panthers talk and I did not want to do that on X much at all. There are only two legitimate outlets for that I've found, here and SB Nation. SB Nation I used to partake in, but they absolutely bumble-f*cked the comments section, and I like the setup of the posts + comments, as opposed to article + comments. Also, as others have pointed out, being a Panthers fan has been a horrendous existence since Cam left. Just an awful crew of coaches, draft picks, trading away great players, etc. It's been miserable.  Ever since Tepper bought the team, I hoped that he commit to a full rebuild. He never did, he thought there were shortcuts and so did Rhule. This hamstrung us for years, and then he massively overstepped with the BY trade.  This ruined the team building, because there was no depth, and then it ruined nuanced BY discussions because of the insane haul we gave up. He will never live up to that, I think many people are finally wrapping their heads around that now which is good. The best thing for this board to get better is for the Panthers to win more, draft well, and to stay committed to crawling through this Andy Dufrense poop-pipe to escape the depths of NFL hell. It will be ugly and stink along the way, but you can see already this year if we commit to drafting then the team and the vibes can turn around quicker than you think.  I am extremely optimistic about the draft class this season, it's something to watch, talk about, and celebrate. It also gives Dan and I think by extension Dave Canales more of a leash, which I think we need to give them and grant them the time to turn this boat around.
