Not having to franchise someone this year is a good thing. I’m actually shocked that Goodwin is open to the tag because he would make So much more money on the open market.

Maybe, but the WR market last year was pretty awful and unpredictable.

Plus he's coming off the pretty serious knee injury. I could see why he'd take the guaranteed 1 year but personally if I were him I'd be more concerned with who's gonna be throwing him the ball over a slightly lower annual average of a questionable market.

Thats the double edge sword with the tag. Yeah you get the money for a year but it’s a gamble that you could lose money for the next contract. There is a reason the players union hates the tag. Goodwin has the tape to show he’s a great receiver but if Kyle Trask is throwing to him next year teams are gonna knock him just for that year.

Agreed. Maybe his camp is betting on the cap raising to bump his AAV but I think I'd try the market personally.

2023 is shaping up to be a monster year for FA WRs, maybe that's what they're thinking.

It depends on how you define "more money."  Godwin will get no less than 120% of the value of his tag from last year, which means he's pushing $20M for a 1 year tag.  And it guarantees he will cash in next year, because they would owe him QB type money to tag him for a 3rd time.

    • I did not want to start or even think about *if* BY reverts back to pre-non last 9 games.   There is a lane in which Panthers are looking QB after this season, I feel its higher than most will realize. I mean....not kidding... has any team ever traded up to 1st overall twice in the teams history? I don't even want to think within 3 years, just foresee Tepper squeezing Dans and Brandts sacs to the point were they are forced to trade up for a another savior.....   The kicker is I feel this way with BY playing good-great..... I think there with be non-fixable problems for contract negotiations between BY&reps vs Panthers org on the whole. You can not pay 50+ million per over few years with 70% guarantees for 3,303 yards 15 TDs and 9 INTs......Cursed I tell you....
    • It's not surprising, but it's still surprising that many of these guys don't manage their money in such a way that provides them and their families a better lifestyle than most for the rest of their lives without even working a nine-to-five. I can't imagine making over a 100 mil for a decade and ultimately ruminating about supporting my family due to financial issues.
    • That why i mentioned the KC dynasty. Those three different playoff loses were not Allens fault, in fact 1-2 plays and Bills win. KC just have better players and better coaches and more luck.  Defense-wise, Bills have been trying to crack the Reid-Halhomes magic. Its near impossible with rules and KC home field advantage. Spags has started to force the league in naming him the best DC in NFL history. I agree if you take away Bill bielacheat.... Add in Andy Reid the best QB coach and brilliant play designer/play-caller, I mean that's too much for one QB to over-come on his own.  Just trolling or not, bad is bad scot. Allen is legit as any one QB has ever been.
