A meaningful swing at QB is immensely more valuable than any “sure” thing you can add to your roster elsewhere

if you told me I had to spend my next three 1st round picks on QBs, and that one one would be a great player (and the other two would not), that approach would be infinitely preferable to simply hoping to get the best guy with one swing based on grade and “getting” to add great tackles or whatever, at any other position, in the other two years

the impact of that position dwarfs any benefit brought to me by any other spot on the field

Its not a meaningful swing when everybody is saying the same things..

"Weak QB class"

"No QB rated higher then the 16th prospect in the draft"

"I wouldn't draft him that high (BuT desperation) will move him up"

Nah. LT is probably the most important guy on the oline (center is very key though), but almost as important as the QB? No single player is even close to the importance of the QB. You can scheme around a poor LT, but you aren't winning with a poor QB. You can win a SB with an average LT. It's very difficult to win a SB with an average QB and forget about a poor one.

You can scheme around a Game Manager QB with a good Oline as well right??

If Neal or Ikownun drop to us.. Forget getting Love.. Just roll with Sam and let it play out.. Don't force a QB on a new staff or Have us in position to mistakenly stick with these lesser prospects  and not take a better QB next year when we're in the same position no matter which QB we drafted..

You obviously love love.....to bad he isn't very good.

How does anybody know if hes any good or not?  Hes barely played at all.  The man has thrown 62 passes in his NFL career, and its not like hes been completely terrible.  Hes completed around 60% of his passes for 411 yards, 2 TDs and 3 INTs....not exactly a large body of work

Love is literally worth nothing. He is in what, his 3rd year and has not progressed at all. This is just wasting assets. If you want to suck another year, get the tackle and ride with Sam.

I think you swing for the fence, and draft your tackle next year. You can get a much more decent LT in free agency now, than you can get a QB. But if you win 5 games next year, which seems to be our bench mark, you aren't getting that mega QB your hoping for either.

I disagree.  For two reasons.  Just taking BPA at 6 makes more sense than reaching for a QB.  Second next year's QB class could actually have players graded as 1st rounders, not this inflated value we see on off years.

Why not trade down, get Penning, then use the extra pick for 2nd round flyer on QB.

All QB's this time will be flyers anyway.  Ridder in 2nd makes more sense than anyone at 6

I think that a trade down should definitely be in the plans. Take best player available and try to get one of the quarterbacks at the second

Funny part is ppl will give Tyler Henikie, Kyle Allen, Marcus Mariota and Winston 4 or 5 season worth of games to prove themselves.. This kid gets 2 games and he's a bust already..

You are wrong..

2nd most valuable position in football is LT...

you wanna know how I know you just looked this up?

because according to the metric they used here, a QB is nearly twice as valuable as a left tackle lol-the two aren’t comparable.

furthermore, you clearly didn’t even read your own article, as it states later on down:

“ What if we limit the numbers to the top 10 players at each position?  This is a bit more indicative of what the NFL does and does not view as “most valuable” as it takes out a bit more of the impact of volume on the each position’s players. “

in this chart, which the author terms as being more in line with what teams value, left tackle comes in even below WR. I wasn’t going to say that, but hey, it’s your argument, and given that we just watched a QB and jamarr chase lead their team to a SB while All World Tackle Penei Sewell’s team got even worse, I guess I see their point.

this is super old. RT are just as important as LT now in the league. Teams used to spend a lot of money on focusing on rushing the passer's blind side. Now it goes both ways.

You have an argument, but your argument is a bit dated.

We also watch that team barely beat a Titans and Raiders team with better Olines..

We also saw a San Francisco team with the worst QB in the Playoffs beat the best QB and best WR in the league at their house..

Definitely don’t think Love is a bust at this point. He’s been playing behind a 1st ballot HOFer who just isn’t ready to go elsewhere yet. Who knows…if he has an entire season to play maybe he puts together a good career. Problem is that at thus point he’s gonna go somewhere else to do it and so he’ll be learning all over again.

BUT! He’s 6 mo younger than Pickett and has already been in the league three years. To me he’s further ahead of Pickett, has more natural arm talent, and would cost less. So to me if you’re not going to draft Corral bc of superior physical traits to Pickett (in a move down) then trading a mid round pick for Love isn’t the worst idea.

    • I am really sorry  that  happened to you they say to never meet your sports heroes i have friends who met  mickey mantle when they were young and he was a belligerent alcoholic at the time  ut broke their hearts  I had the opportunity to meet and spend  time with Cam Newton.     He was the polar opposite of Steve Smith and his public image.   Polite.  Honest when asked question.  You could tell the things that mattered to him and the things that  didnt. The disappointments in himself and the things that hurt him  those qualities make him quite a good interviewer too  i genuinely liked him   Im sure as young, rich, sports hero, he has not been a choir boy but there is goodness in him  the time i met him i took one of my friends with me from the west coast. She said she didn't like him and wasn’t enthusiastic about meeting him.  She left loving him   No one can say anything bad about ‘her Cam’ anymore
    • Agree about oline. They've tried their best to improve that area. But honestly, has it looked like the most expensive oline in the NFL to you? Not just with Bryce. With Dalton's one game where they almost got the old man killed.  Also YAC shouldn't always be hitting a guy in stride while he's running full speed. Pickens killed us after the catch and those weren't all hit-in-stride plays. I remember a play in Miami when a guy caught a 5 yards curl and took it like 30-40 yards to the house. We don't have that in Carolina. Horn might be the closest thing to that but he can't get significant PT for whatever reason. If Bryce keeps trusting his receivers to make plays, I think he'll become more consistent. Seemed like he only trusted TMac. And force feeding one receiver isn't sustainable. Defenses will start to blanket him and take him out of the game. And yeah, keep taking deep shots. I hate all that dink and dunk football. Hate it.
    • Dan Marino sucked too I guess. Washed up Elway carried by Terrell Davis was actually better than prine Elway. Lol
