Running QBs don’t win Superb Owls

Recommended Posts

In 52 Super Bowls, maybe maybe one if you count Wilson but he Scrambles to make a good throw like Mahomes. Steve Young, same thing. Lamar, Vick, Cam, The Golden Calf of Bristol, RGknee, Murray, Tasum Hill, on and on.

Accurate pocket passers that trust their line, make great throws, move around so they avoid hits/sacks.

That’s a big hell no to Willis. Its Corral or Pickett. If you aren’t sold on either. Oline it up at least and trade for ….dear god Jimmy G or Michew and get one next year.

So Pat, Steve, Russell, and Aaron are not mobile QBs? Ok...

Those other guys you named are trash, a pure running QB is garbage like the majority of the guys you named outside of Lamar and Cam.

You need a QB that can pass first, but have the ability to run.

Hai Guyz, trash ass QBs like Vick, RG3, Te-bow, and Taysom hill never won  a SB!!!!111

mobile is not the same as running.

If those guys wanted to be dumbasses like Vick they could just get by on their talent alone, not study film, and rack up the rushing yards.....

Let's define some terms here...

Running Quarterbacks: quarterbacks who can run but are lousy to mediocre passers (example: Michael Vick)

Mobile Quarterbacks: quarterbacks who are capable of scrambling to set up passes but aren't necessarily run threats that you have to game plan against (example: Russell Wilson)

Dual Threats: quarterbacks that are capable of being a run threat while also being great passers (example: Steve Young)

Pocket Passers: quarterbacks who rarely run unless they need to, but aren't necessarily immobile (example: Tom Brady)

Those definitions look solid and are needed to have any kind of productive discussion on this issue.

I would take the position that it's far too earlier to put Willis into one of those boxes, but I would agree hi is unlikely to be a "Pocket Passer" (by your definition) until much, much later in his career.

This depends how you view dual threats as well. How many rushing yards makes a QB a dual threat?

Everyone says Elway was a dual threat but the most rushing yards he had in a season was 200.

Russell Wilson had over 400 rushing yards the year they won the SB. He's had more rushing yards since but hasn't won the SB.

Young had barely over 200 rushing yards the year they won the SB. It's all how people view things really.

I don't define it by stats.

I define it by whether or not it's something you have to game plan for.

Young, for example, didn't need to run all that often because he was such an exceptional passer. But when he did take off, look out.

I will take a QB who can run like the wind but who can stand in the pocket and pass an amazingly accurate ball with ease as well. I guess anybody would for that matter but a guy who can do both at the top of their game makes for one bad ass awesome QB

I've long put it this way...

Quarterbacks who can run and pass are gold.

Quarterbacks who can pass are silver.

Quarterbacks who can run but can't pass are fool's gold

That's fair. I try to look at stats on occasion to determine if a QB is a rushing QB or not. That's why I view Rodgers as more of a pocket passer.
