Are we set at DT?

Anybody else concerned about the DT situation?  (It is slow, so I thought I would throw out a topic we have not discussed in a while)

First, good frikin post. I appreciate actual discussion, instead of just another thread about how much our coach, owner, qb, list of available qb's, etc. suck.

Ionnidis played  59% of the snaps last year (same as Jones) and only missed games in 2020, so I hope it's just sour grapes with the Washington fans. This guy has a knack for getting to the QB, and SHOULD be an upgrade. Nixon looked pretty good with the few snaps he played, and I expect him to part of the regular rotation this season. I honestly can't remember enough about Hoskins to have an opinion.

I think that we'll end up picking up another DT before all is said and done. Probably not a big name, but hopefully a solid contributor.

If the draft falls a certain way I wouldn’t mind going DL in the first round. The DLine got abused last year and is desperate for top tier talent.

It would probably be Travon Walker if we do-- I wonder how the Huddle would respond to another defensive player in the first round?

I would rather go OL this draft but our DL was also getting abused last season and with probably just as many or more question marks as the OL going forward. And similar to OL it is an expensive position to fix in free agency.

Unfortunately, Burns hasn't turned the corner, YGM is still trying to learn how to play, Brown is a run stuffer coming off a sub par year, and the rest are JAG's.

Our D Line is not a strength, it's likely a weakness.

The only place where we are set is WR, CB, RB.  Every other position group needs help.

Jordan davis

If our roster was in better shape, I’d take Jordan Davis in a heartbeat. He’d definitely help our run defense. We just have such major ???s at QB and LT and few picks that DT isn’t an immediate priority.

Dang missed this.

My opinion and all, this group has enough NFL talent. The main issue is everyone is still so young, which is why I hated Rhule hiring that 72 year old DL coach.......mark this down- he will retire during training camp.

Now the 2nd year players- Nixon and Hoskins *when factoring in their drafted position * each overplayed that and showed a flash or two in limited snaps. (I try to focus on the lines). Nix got a ACL tear and if he attacked that like he should have, he should be stronger this time.

Roy is just fine for #4/5 DT. I like his effort and just like the two above he was a late rounder. I do remember one series later in the season in which Roy was the sole reason for the O going 3 and out.

Brown is the key and he needs to step it UP THREE TIMES. He needs to be a constant threat and OL needs to double him. Maybe having a real pro like the following will bring out out his inner animal.

Matt Ioannidis comes from what should have been the best DL in all NFL, but they struggled. Ive seen where matt is a weight-room beast, thats always a plus in my book. I said that brown was the key and that may be wrong, because Matt is now the leader of this new young group.

Lastly Im ready to fire the strength coach if I see the same line play Ive seen from 2021, Jemery Scott its on YOU. It Sickens my soul watching line play from last year's review and each line was hardcored bullied, FIX IT NOW!

    • Damn I liked A'Shawn too. This is basically a heads up we're planning on cutting you move.  Robinson wasn't the best but I loved his attitude and effort on the field. He held that entire dline together when Brown went down iirc..granted we finished that season as the worst rushing defense in modern NFL history.  If Wharton would have performed up to atleast half of his salary last season, I'd feel a little better about it. We do need that cap space though.
    • 13. Carolina is coming. The Panthers are well thought of around the league. Their "process" seems sound. I think their off-season will be very interesting to keep an eye on. They made the playoffs, but they're not yet knocking on the door. (Offense was 26th in EPA/play.) I think it's imperative they don't overestimate where they are in their build. They can't throw a ton of money around in FA to "make a run now". They need to be intentional about building a solid foundation. (IMO) And from what I know about the team... I think they will be. Sidenote: I have my eye on offense there, not defense. They HAVE to leave next season with a strong opinion on Bryce Young. They need to put pieces around him to do that. Can't be left wondering what he would have looked like with "better OL play" or "more pass catchers". They have to know. (That part is purely my opinion. No one told me that.) https://x.com/lindsay_rhodes/status/2027212533417869499?s=46&t=xeIgh_-Vr2aKxBkBJdfnKA
    • Because this DL is completely reliant on Brown being available and being a stud. Without him we were the worst D in history. The Wharton signing last year reeked of desperation. He just isn't a great fit for us schematically and I think we panicked a little bit when we missed out on Milton Williams who would have been a great fit.
