Sam Darnold told Jets they were “making a mistake” by trading him

i dont know if bait or not. i do hold a 8% hope that if the panthers have a decent OL, fully season CMC health, TEs/WRs improve/grow more.....Sam can be good enough. I did see real talent in a few games, but the biggest issue is 4 years of running for his life would change ANY player. Hes needs reprogramming, dont know if current staff can work this miracle.

Many of the criticisms of Darnold's college tape are the same criticisms that people have today. He essentially hasn't learned a thing. His ball security and decision making are just atrocious.

It is amazing...

...calls his intellect into question.

I really want to know who was the most responsible for signing Darnold.

Who looked at a QB with Darnolds level of ineptitude and thought they can make him into a good QB??

Rhule was hired to take over all football operations and all decisions go through him, so he is primarily the one to blame. I also think Joe Brady played a big part of it, Teddy was signed because he was "familiar" with Brady's offense in New Orleans. Brady must have believed that he could fix Darnold.

And Rhule hired Brady. He should have went for an NFL OC when he still had the optimism surrounding his coaching abilities.

I think Rhule had too much arrogance and believed his process or methods would work in the NFL. That's why he didn't hire experienced veteran NFL coaches, he wanted to hire "his guys." This offseason he has hired more experienced guys.

What the hell are you talking about--suggesting?

If you don't know the proper language of football, then perhaps you should take a gander at hundreds of articles and draft profiles on record since the evolution of the modern NFL. Here are some regarding Sam Darnold!

"poor decision-making"

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.espn.com/blog/carolina-panthers/post/_/id/35698/benching-sam-darnold-might-be-best-step-in-fixing-carolina-panthers-offense%3fplatform=amp

"...but his lower half mechanics and decision making could prevent him from becoming a top tier NFL QB..."

https://turnonthejets.com/2018/06/sitting-sam-darnold-in-year-one-lower-half-mechanics-decision-making/

"Darnold attributed his first interception to 'poor decision-making.'"

https://www.panthers.com/news/sam-darnold-i-m-fully-aware-i-didn-t-play-my-best-football

"Making wiser decisions when he’s on the move might be a good start."

https://www.google.com/amp/s/nesn.com/2021/11/stat-suggests-panthers-sam-darnold-shouldnt-throw-on-run-anymore/amp/

After harping on the decision-making, Rhule said he'll wait until he reviews the film before making any big statements on Darnold's future.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nfl.com/_amp/sam-darnold-on-3-to-day-in-panthers-loss-i-m-fully-aware-i-didn-t-play-my-best-f

"Thus far, his decision-making has been questionable."

https://withthefirstpick.com/2018/02/10/2018-nfl-draft-sam-darnold-strengths-weaknesses/3/

There are many more examples...Damn, SizzleMuzz.

Just because someone does not have the mental processing speed or even acuity to make good decisions under pressure doesn't necessarily speak to a person's raw intellectual ability. Good grief, man!

He probably will be the starter this year again if they do draft a rookie. He has a much better Oline, healthy CMC with a new bruising RB, and a new coordinator. If he will ever live up to his statement this is the time......or not.

They are right and I agree. Give him no more excuses and see if he can overcome maybe the worst 4 year OL start to ones career. Its alllll the hope I got left, pleeeeease bump ANY Darnold thread when they first traded for him......Its me in there calling him the worst proven QB and panthers may have the worst overall QB room. I did see the first round talent, his mental game is my greatest fear...

TBF, the jets did use the #2 draft pick on someone who actually performed worse than Darnold.  Darnold was 32nd in PR.  Zack was 33rd.  So there's that.

One was a rookie. The other in his 4th season with three years of starting experience under his belt.

True...and Wilson may end up being an upgrade in the long run, though indications are that it will be a close race to the bottom.   Its possible after coming in 33rd he'll rocket to the top to justify the #2 pick.  I'm not holding my breath.

Did you catch any of Josh Allen's rookie season? He looked terrible.

    • I just don't think some guys have it. Darnold has the panic gene. I don't think there's any fixing it. He looks really good as long as the play develops as drawn up or if he gets pressured immediately and has to go to his check down right away. It's when he has decent protection and his first read isn't open and he's standing back there in the pocket with that panic slowly building. That's when he does disastrous poo.
    • based on the QBs drafted #1 comparison thread, he’s right where he should be. if your expectations were to have a rookie lead us to the playoffs without an OL and WR corps, maybe your expectations were a bit off.
    • at some point, though, you just have to suck it up and accept it and deal with the bad deal you got.  you go through funks where you keep making mistakes and hope that you get it figured out sometime soon, but in the learning process you realize you could have done some things better but you're stuck with decisions you make. you have two choices...whine about it or just brush it off and hope can make the situation you put yourself work. i know a lot of people in here have probably never experienced or dealt with failure much in their lives, but i have and i learned to just suck it up and try to make the best of the situation you've got yourself in because you realize that you're stuck with it for a while. doesn't do any good to keep harping over what you wish you had done better. you already know that. now it's just about moving forward from here and making the best of it and hoping you can make something of it. it's the easiest thing in the world to look at where Bryce falls short...and yes, that was intentional. everyone knows that and all that is done is beating that horse laying on the ground. what takes some work is trying to see how it can work and if they have done and are doing things to help the situation get better.
