Haynes and Luvu are two players that would constantly flash on screen in limited snaps; I'm excited to see them take on more prominent roles.  Hell, with Burns locking down one DE position and guys like YGM/Haynes/Luvu rotating into the other spot, I'm fairly comfortable with our edge rushers.  That's not even factoring in the chances of a guy like Barno coming in and earning a decent chunk of playing time as a rookie.

Yeah. I'd even like to see Burn move around a bit more. It'd be nice to see him rushing from the right side from time to time out of odd fronts. Keep the Offense from keying on him as much.

We were a top defensive unit, you're going to wear a defense out when the starting QB has 9 passing touchdowns, and 13 interceptions in the games he's played.

The offense did the defense NO favors, complimentary football did not exist.

Only in yards allowed and it was exposed early. Just run and no one needed to do too much with how bad the O was at scoring. The top D shtick is way overplayed around here.

At the end of the season our D was:
2nd best in yards allowed
3rd best in yards allowed  per play
4th best in first downs allowed
4th best in passes allowed
4th best in passing yards allowed
2nd best in passing first downs allowed
8th best in RUSHING yards allowed per attempt

Field position killed us, so we were mediocre in the points allowed.  To often they made it to FG range.

Meanwhile our offense was:
32nd in yards per play
31st in turnovers
29th in points
29th in 3rd down conversions

Check out points allowed which is actually the entire purpose of a defense. We allowed so little yards yet so much scoring, top of the bottom 3rd of the NFL.

It's almost like the other teams didn't need yards to score at will...

Can you guess why that is?

Hayes was originally committed to North Carolina out of High school but couldn’t get in due to academics so naturally he went to the SEC and probably made the deans list.

there is a lot to like with MH - we need him to step up. Weren’t the panthers shopping him around the TD last year?

I remember him in college. He was a freak track athlete in highschool and turned into a great edge in college.

I had added it while you replied.  You said:

This is false on its face.  We were elite in MANY categories AT THE END OF SEASON.

Yeah a bunch of yards, which you broke down into detail which is still just yards allowed. If you are 2nd in yards allowed then pass and run yards broken down will follow that. Again, context. Also no one ranks passes attempts allowed or runs allowed attempts as a rank stat, it is there for creating context.

That was not a top 10 D and no one except Panther fans called it a top 10 D. Look at Points allowed, turnovers (which you can keep simplified or break down for context), sacks, yards per play and yards allowed for rankings. Really yards and points in the most simplistic analysis.

Once again false on its face.  It wasn't all yards.  It included first downs and passes.

We we're 8th in press%.
We were 6th in tackles for loss

You can lie to yourself and pretend that starting field position doesn't matter, but it matters.

We were 32nd in defense starting field position...32nd!

Field position matters.

Field position matters.

If 6th in tackles for loss the best you can do then cool 2 top 10 placements, one that matters when ranking a D overall.

I know we were terrible in field position...it helped our total yards allowed look good while giving up up points to rank us 21st overall. Again, not a top 10 D. We had 1 stat category that holds that argument up but it can't withstand any analysis. At all.

That logic would apply if  there was no such thing as a field goal.  42% of the scores against us were FGs.

We allowed 2nd fewest yards per drive and yet they still got into FG range because we had the absolute worst starting position.

Combine that with we had to face the 2nd most number of drives.

13th worst in Pass TDs and 15th in run TDs so good try but still not a top 10 D.

Guess we'll see.  We haven't made any major upgrades on D and we lost arguably one of if not the best player in Reddick.  Stephan for Horn should cancel to some extent.

Using your logic our D should be bottom 3rd in points again.
