that’s means you have to play the starters the entire time Sam and Baker would be competing? Who wants that?  It would double up the time you play our starters in a meaningless preseason game 1.    It’s not a comp if one is with the 1s and one is with the 2s the next series.

It doesn’t necessarily double anything honestly. If your ones were gonna get 2/3 series anyways you just split between them. Your ones were gonna play the same amount no matter who is under center. Playing them both doesn’t mean they are both getting an entire qtr. I say 2/3 series 4 tops. Split it down the middle or if a series ended early on a dumb turnover or something.

Darnold supposedly knows the offense better and yet Baker is still out-performing him… stop with the “splitting the reps is ok” because it’s not. If we go into week one and Baker struggles to get in a rhythm you shouldn’t have a problem figuring out why.

He’s been in rhythm with both 1s and 2s so far. He’s getting timing with both sets of receivers. I’m not worried about that much if at all. He’s even primarily working with Bozeman who should on all counts be the starting C. Him playing with both 1s and 2s isn’t as damaging as everyone is making out to be.

😂 Top 10 when healthy? poo man, c’mon. In 4 years, Mayfield has never finished top 10 in yards, TDs, passer rating. He finished 10th in QBR one year and well below that every other year. He has finished top 10 in interceptions 3 out of 4 years.

Mayfield is better than Darnold but he is nowhere close to elite/top 10. Rodgers, Brady, Brees (years 1-3), Stafford, Watson, Allen, Herbert, Wilson, Carr, Roethlisberger, Jackson, Murray, Burrow, Mahomes, Cousins, Tannehill (I’m Tenn) and even Ryan have been better the past 3-4 years. I also prefer some of the 2021/2023 QBs easily as well.

I wish him the best (or worst I’d it gets us a stud 2023 QB) but elite and top 10 is not true.

He was ranked 11th after the 2020 season over Carr, Cousins, Ryan, Stafford, Dak, etc. He deserves a healthy year to prove that wasn't a fluke. He was still better than Sam last year playing with shoulder and foot injuries since week 2

So he had one good year and I forgot Dak. I’d rather have him too.

In 2020, Carr had a better year without the studly OL and running game. Prescott was also better but got hurt in game 5, so not sure why those two are mentioned. Stafford and Ryan were better the other years.

Mayfield was top 10 in QBR and not top 10 in TDs, passing yards and passer rating in his best year by far. He also had the #3 rushing offense. Makes it easier to throw more TDs and not have pressure to force interceptions which is how he squeaked into the top 10 in QBR.

He’s clearly better than Sam, but he’s nowhere close to elite or a top 10 QB so far in his career, healthy or not. I like the pickup of it weren’t for the idiocy of giving up 3 picks and picking up the 5th year of Sam. I just want a rookie with a high as fug ceiling. Cam Newton was that. He was elite and it showed. Baker ain’t sniffing Cam’s ceiling. It’d be nice to get back there.

Yeah I'm in no way defending this staff getting the chance to gamble on QB every year, I hope they suck it up and cut Sam so Corral can get more reps and show if he can be the guy or not at some point. At the very least Baker will be more entertaining to watch than the last few QB's since Cam. Can't handle many more 8 yard comeback routes on 3rd and 10

Yeah...that's nothing special.

Darnold could have had the playbook for a whole year before Mayfield did and still wouldn't have gained any advantage. It's the on-field reps that count. And I haven't seen anyone at any point say that Darnold looked more in command of the offense then Mayfield.

But let's suppose for a moment that it did matter. Wouldn't it then make sense to give more reps to the guy who had less time to study the playbook?

It's a stretch to suggest that knowing the playbook doesn't matter. It's bordering on the absurd. Knowledge of the playbook speaks towards the successful execution of on-field reps.

Facts mean nothing to him pertaining to Mayfield. I've learned that you can't take him seriously.

Besides, why should Mayfield just be handed the job? He's not elite.

he led the Cleveland Browns to a come from behind victory over the N.Y. Jets in his NFL debut which at the time the Cleveland Browns hadn't won  a football game in 635 days.then after that continued to produce at a high level during his rookie season & led that very same team whom hadn't won a single football game in 635 days into the playoffs in 2020  for the very first time since 2002..

...so yeah you know  just saying that alone  is not only considerably better than anything Sam Darnold has ever  done in his professional football career but would also be considered  elite for a rookie Qb to accomplish..

just to add-on, in 13.5 games he broke rookie QB TD mark. No clue why some panther fans are going down this path about baker.
