Bakerfield and batted balls

He plays like he’s 5’11. Brees played like he was 6’2. Low arcing throws and he’s a loose gunslinger about things. He’s got the ability but is simply a bit of a sloppy type of QB. Less margin for error when you have the physical traits working against you.

Still, on a per-pass level, Mayfield's 2.46 percent passes batted down mark is the second-highest rate in the league among the 30 quarterbacks that have attempted at least 1,000 passes since 2018. The only quarterback with a higher percentage over that span is 6'5" Cam Newton at 2.56 percent.

ESPN

Cam wasn’t ever more than an average throwing QB and his mvp season was a fluke because of other top qbs being injured and cam getting constant great field position because of the defense.

Ok I've said this a million times.

It's the Olines job to get their hands down.

When the defender jumps you punch towards his balls. They will instinctively bring their hands down in a flinch.

Or they jump and you cut them (unless this is now illegal but it shouldn't be in the free blocking zone) that brings their hands down as well.

Exactly this, on the replays of the batted balls the offensive lineman is not even touching the dlineman and allowing them to jump freely.  I have no idea how this hasnt been corrected yet.  If the dlineman doesn't get quick pressure they are instantly preparing to bat the ball down and until the olineman start making them pay for it,  it will continue.   The team seemed to have a mean streak in the preseason and in the regular season it seems like the coaching staff has told them to lose all that energy and they are flat.

    • Could do better could do worse. I've seen some people very indignant over bringing him back and I can absolutely relate to the sentiment. But it's just in a backup role. He's also a good locker room presence and an effort player so for a 1 year rental in a year where we aren't going to do much it's fine. This is a development year. And there will be options if need be at the trade deadline. Besides at the end of the day we all knew a signing like this was around the corner after how drafting Mark Williams ended. He should have been our franchise center for the next several years. I don’t put that failure on the Hornets.
    • No one is upset.  And what I referred has been happening.   Patrick Mahomes has an offseason basketball clause in his contract.  A ton of other physical activites like jet skiing, baseball and all sorts of physical activities are written into his contract.  XL likely already has ATVs and stuff written into his contact.  League already has been inserting a lot of that stuff into basic contracts for non-top tier players and we have seen it pan out.
    • A payment for future production, puts him a cane for 9 seasons.
