What’s your 2023 QB big board (including Corral)

Passing on QB prospects due to holding out hope for Corral would be flat out insane

I've said before that Rhule's BS approach in developing Corral would force us to take a QB in this upcoming draft.

Go back and watch all of his preseason work. He had one good throw which was ok a swing route to a RB. Everything else he basically looked like a fan who won a drawing to play QB that day.

I know you like the guy and hell I had him as my #2 QB in the draft, but damn... he looked flat out awful.

I get your dislike for Matt Corral and he looked lost in his first preseason game but was doing better in the 2nd before his injury.

But I gotta ask. You really believe he got any real work as a QB for this team in preseason?  How anyone can say he's not an NFL QB based on the ridiculous way Rhule "developed" Corral.

I'd say any rookie QB would look awful with a bunch of "Foot Locker shoe saleman" blocking for him that he barely got a chance to work with in preseason.

The awful thing was Rhule's childish way he played or I should say lack of play for Corral.

If you're the next staff though, what else do you have to go off of? You're gonna watch his college tape and you're going to watch those preseason snaps.

You're going to narrow your potential HC list substantially if you tie them to Matt Corral. That's why it won't happen.

I assume that if, when, we hire a new coach they will evaluate Corral's tape from college as they would any of these QBs coming out in the draft. No new HC in his right mind would believe Corral looked lost because he doesn't know how to play the position.   That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the new HC felt Corral was just as good as any in the draft and we go elsewhere with the pick.   It's not likely but would be surprised.

What I do believe, is we'll draft a QB with the intentions of allowing both of them to compete against one another and the best man wins.  They all say draft position means nothing when you get to camp.

It's a benefit that a new Head Coach would love to have.  Two young and potentially good QBs.

The team that beat the Bucs doesn't look like a team picking in the top five.

PJs pocket awareness is soooooo much better than Baker. He actually helps his line with quick decisions and being aware of pressure and moving to the other side of the pocket thus buying time for receivers to get open. He'll side step laterally into a passing lane and fire. I looked back and watched him toy with the pass rush. PJs pocket game is a game within the game. Very impressed with his decision making, calmness, technical prowess.

I believe they'll win a few games. Maybe more than we think.

I don't dislike Corral. He was actually my #2 QB in the draft. I just can't sugarcoat how truly terrible he looked.

I think you would have to agree though that the damn near microscopic number of reps he got in camp would have made it difficult for just about anybody to look good.

Thanks, you beat me to it.

I don't doubt we'll draft a QB but that's all I will agree to.  I think Corral will have a TRUE QB competition if we do.

1. No coach is going to watch tape of MC and decide that is who they will roll with since he cannot practice until Aug.

2. There will be no competition.  The new staff will sign a vet when free agency opens and then draft a guy in April.  Both of those dudes will be light years ahead of MC when he can actually practice fully.  There are only so many reps to divide up and I doubt they will take away crucial reps from the rookie just in the name of "competition".  Its sucks for MC but that is just how it is

3. Draft position is the world when you pick a qb in the top of the first.  Dont kid yourself

Stat that some would probably want to factor into the discussion...

Wait a minute Young has had MORE WRs  wide open downfield than Stroud? I keep hearing from team Young that Stroud’s team is more loaded and his WRs are more open? Interesting stat here…

Also Corral is a 3rd round injured QB. He will probably get treated like one. Would we pass on a top QB because we didn’t see Will Grier play his rookie year??

I like corral.  Ive said many times rhule has fuged this kid, however the love this dude is getting on here is insane.  He was dropping like a rock in the draft and is now injured.  The odds were astronomical for him to make an impact as it was before he got injured.  Now they are basically nonexistent.    At absolute best he is starting the season qb3 behind a vet and a highly drafted rookie.  At best.  No way in hell corral is going to be taking any valuable reps from them especially seeing how he is going to miss mini camps etc until Aug.  Even then we dont know how well he will play coming off a notoriously fickle injury.

    • Who is yall? The Bryce “haters”.  This is a wild post bro.  Bryce defenders jumping the shark at this point.  I wanted Cam Newton before anyone was even floating he could be the #1 overall pick lol.  Cam Newton is my Panthers GOAT.  As a real Cam fan, it’s gross BY defenders are trying to use Cam as some sort of Bryce defense tactic.  Comparing BY to Cam is also on par with comparing Jimmy Clausen to Cam.  It’s pretty dang close.
    • I agree about Evero deserving credit, but that's also unfortunately where I have to say something that I'm sure won't go over well either. As that's great and all, but honestly, at this point, do we REALLY care about Evero showing improvement in his schemes as a coach other than making our players better individually? If you're in the same boat as me, and 100% expecting a new HC next year, what our DC does this year with in game improvements is nice in the moment, but pointless in the long term since he'll then also be gone next year, no way a DC gets kept around for 3 HC's no matter what he did that previous year. So yes, I give him credit and want us to show improvement there, but it's just unfortunately not something I'm going to get excited about either when looking forward into 2026 and beyond, which as I've clearly said, is really all I'm looking at this year, how it sets up our future as a franchise. Now I'll also be fair there and say if you think Canales and co. will be back next year, then sure, it's something to get excited about, but I just can't see any way Tepper brings him back again.
    • PFF has it's uses for certain position groups but it shouldn't be seen as gospel. Sometimes you just have to look at what you're seeing with your own two eyes.
