If I had to right now, really had to and show my cards on who I like...

I'm guessing we end up around Pick 6-7.  I'll take a more targeted approach rather than a straight up guess for each current pick:

R1 - Jordan Addison/Quinten Johnson WR - Give me one of these bonafide studs.  I want top talent, best possible offensive playmaker upgrades.  Period.  Possibly the TE, but Addison is going to be special.  Think a blend of Stefon Diggs and Devonta Smith.

Late R1 (Trade up) - Tanner McKee QB Stanford - Give this guy an OL and those type of WRs, I'm 100% interested.  He actually has all the tools, is smart, young (22), NFL arm, has the size (6'6), enough agility in the pocket, and word is more than a few GMs and scouting teams are actually high on him, not an online boosted stock situation. Get him end of first with that option.  See how he stacks up.  Pro ready, pro style offense, pro style QB.

R2-3 - Henry To'oTo'o LB Bama - Shiny new linebacker after we inevitably let Shaq go.

R3-4 - Luke Schoonmaker TE  - Need to take another gander at a TE.  Thomas and Tremble have made progress but we need a. clear upgrade.  Massive potential with this guy.

R3-4ish - Cameron Ward QB - Go high upside on a double dip.  He's like 20/21, treat it developmentally and see how he fairs vs. Corral.  Sign a vet FA for insurance, I doubt we'd want to roll with 2 rooks and a 2nd year who's basically a rookie.

R3-6 - Chase Brown RB - Plays through contact and has got the burners. Crazy good acceleration.  Think Saquan meets Ekeler (style/type wise, not saying he's a star RB, but has the potential)

Stick with the Sax man…I am sure you have talent there.  No offense

And no offense taken, I know my circles, I know my cheesy gimmick, and I bring here what I will.

Take it or leave it.  And continue your thing, whatever that is

Cool cool.  Used to be a bit different but kind of chilled with the sax shtick ha.

And having a few ears out there through the fam (I'm just an architect), hear some fun stuff every now and again.  But I don't have it directly at my disposal.  Only once in a while through my cuz.

Also, just love chatting prospects, all good

Agree totally.  Don’t ever take me seriously.  Please don’t be offended.  I think our QB opinions are usually very aligned

I had a bit of fun with this with a couple runs. Where Young fell to us:

6.
Bryce Young
QB Alabama

39.
Josh Downs
WR North Carolina

80.
Dalton Kincaid
TE Utah

105.
Devon Achane
RB Texas A&M

109.
Ricky Stromberg
OC Arkansas

126.
Tyler Steen
OT Alabama

131.
Carter Warren
OT Pittsburgh

142.
Jalen Graham
LB Purdue

159.
Mike Morris
EDGE Michigan

166.
Cory Trice
CB Purdue

214.
Payton Wilson
LB NC State

2024 LAR 3rd
2024 LAR 5th

But even more fun with this one--assuming we thought Young, Stroud, or Williams in '24 as the only acceptable QB of the future options and accepted almost all trade requests:

57.
Tank Bigsby
RB Auburn

65.
Andre Carter II
EDGE Army

66.
Layden Robinson
OG Texas A&M

72.
DeMarvion Overshown
LB Texas

85.
Cameron Latu
TE Alabama

89.
Owen Pappoe
LB Auburn

105.
Warren McClendon
OT Georgia

116.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
EDGE Washington

139.
Derick Hall
EDGE Auburn

147.
Steele Chambers
LB Ohio State

150.
Olusegun Oluwatimi
OC Michigan

211.
Grayson McCall
QB Coastal Carolina

226.
Tykee Smith
S Georgia

2024 JAX 1st
2024 NYG 1st
2024 ARI 1st
2024 TB 1st
2024 CIN 2nd
2024 DEN 3rd
2024 TEN 3rd

5(!) firsts in the following draft, plus an extra second and two extra thirds? Totally unrealistic fantasy but one can dream as we'd totally control that draft and future ones with teams trying to position.

Anyone else think Houston might seriously entertain trading out or going non QB?

Their roster is BAD. They’ve essentially been a lock for the 1st pick all year. They have 1’s from Cleveland this year and next and could grab a few more in a trade down.

Whether they take their favorite QB prospect or not, they’re going to be drafting 1st overall next year again anyways. Would they rather have Caleb Williams or a haul of picks for him. Build up their team and start the QB rookie contract clock a year later?

I’m all for taking shots at QB until something hits but this team is so damn bad I’m not sure you want to put a rookie back there

Nah, you don't get #1 overall often, it's rare even for traditionally bad franchises.  You take a QB unless it's one of those classes like last year which was incredibly mediocre.  Getting the pick of the litter, you have to do it.  Even though I don't love any of these QBs, if the Panthers were #1, I would have a hard time arguing against it.

    • We also have to consider cause and effect.  Maybe the reason we don't target TEs is not by design, it is due to personnel.  If we are going to use 12 (2 TEs) and 13 (3 TEs) sets to improve the run game, we need some TE options.  It is ridiculous to think we can do that without TEs who can run the seams and move the chains in the pass game.  I think that is the plan folks.  We ran 3 TEs about 1 in 12 plays last year, and we did not have the TE personnel to do that as effectively as needed.  If we had better TEs, we might run 3 TE sets more--say 10%, and 2 TE sets 20% of the time.  You always need the pass option when you do this, and frankly, nobody was scared with Tremble, Evans, and Sanders out there.  It is an area they are likely to address.
    • Conspiracy theory:  They only spoke to one TE (based on the list I saw) and it was Joly.  They are telling us:  If we draft a TE, it will be day 3, and it will be Joly or we will stay with what we have.
    • THE WALKER BACKGROUND Here is where this gets weird.  Walker is a serviceable LT who could benefit from Gilbert's experience and coaching.  However, he is known for below-average run blocking and frequent penalties.  As you know, a penalty from a LT is a drive killer. A former 7th round pick, Walker has outperformed expectations, but he still ranks around the middle of the pack when compared to other tackles.  Having said that, it seems as if the Panthers are banking on Walker for a year and will then make a decision on Ickey.  In Green Bay, Walker was the starter, but the Packers weren't exactly sold on him. While most people think the oft-injured David Bakhtiari retired in 2023, he really wanted to keep playing.  He was released on March, 11, 2024.  Walker stepped in and took the reserve LT job from Nijman in that 2023 season, but they were close--probably because Nijman was more of a swing OT.  However, Nijman was a free agent in 2024, so the Panthers signed him just a week after Bakhtiari was released, leaving the Packers only Walker to play LT.  A month later, the Packers drafted a LT in the first round, Jordan Morgan out of Arizona.  Most Packer fans believe that Morgan would have beat out Walker for the LT job in 2024, but he had some shoulder injuries and went to IR after 6 games. In 2025, when the Packers had an injury at G during the season, instead of putting Morgan in at LT for Walker as planned, they played Morgan to guard because Walker can only play 1 position.  The Packers currently project Morgan back to LT for 2026, which is probably why they did not seek to retain Walker, at least in part. Based on this history, it is safe to say this: Walker is better than Nijman. We have the benefit of them being on the same team in a direct competition to help us see that. Walker is probably closer to Ickey, except for the penalties.  That bothers me a lot.  Bryce sucks when we get behind the sticks, and a run-first offense with a poor run-blocking LT is not ideal.   Regardless, I think Ickey and the Panthers find themselves in limbo right now, so the Walker deal comes at a perfect time for the GM.  Gilbert, perhaps, can work on the penalties and maybe a TE like Tremble can help offset the run blocking issues, so maybe we can actually stay the course at OT.  Maybe we do not draft a LT--maybe we draft a RT to groom behind Moton.  Maybe we draft a C.  At LT, the Panthers do not want to overreact, especially if Ickey returns to form or Walker demonstrates improvement.  Depth is certainly a concern, but a solid RT can be that depth.   I doubt the Panthers draft a LT in rounds one or maybe two.  It seems we have bigger needs at Will LB, DT, TE, and maybe S.
