There were a lot of teams with concerns about Fields.  I never fully understood all of them.  But even so, him dropping below Lance makes my head hurt, too.  I had my own concerns about Wilson, but the consensus was otherwise among the people paid to make that call so I just figured that was my own stupidity.

Had the 49ers not gone all in on Lance, who knows where he would have been drafted?  He could have fallen down the board below Fields.  It only takes one team to elevate a guy's draft position.

Had to be the interview process. It's vital in the evaluation process and is something fans have minimal visibility into and anything that comes out is likely to be misinformation.

Where the Panthers went wrong is not getting Matt Stafford. That was totally on Rhule and one of the reasons he was fired. 99% of QBs teams were willing to move on from are just not good.

It was Rhule. We would've likely still sucked with Stafford. Worst case scenario we would've been just good enough to keep Rhule around.

If Shanahan doesn’t want him, I don’t want him.

Exactly. If a great offensive coach can't make him work that's a wrap.

Is Trey Lance that bad? I believe we have only seen him play 4 games? He got injured in his second start this year.

Not saying the kid is good... but i dont think we have enough footage to say he is bad.... Let's not forget that Shanny wanted to dump Jimmy G... and then was left with no choice.....

I dont think there is enough data to support this assumption. Sam Darnold started out hot in our offense and competed until he went his rut. Stafford wouldnt have fell into that rut.

Problem is we would have gotten Stafford killed behind our OL last year.  The second-worst scenario (definitely behind being good enough to keep Rhule around) was making a big trade for him and then having him on IR and hobbling around when he came back this year.

There's just no way we trade again.  It's a rookie, Corral, & a Cooper Rush/Minshew type guy, with the rookie likely starting.

Keep the eyes ahead.

If Steichen is the hire, we go Minshew and stack picks. I could see someone like Steichen letting Corral and Minshew compete his first year, and ask the FO to stack picks for next year's draft. I believe the hype for this QB class is seriously losing momentum.

Steichen and Lamar Jackson (if this is even plausible), who says no?

When he's played he's looked awful. I'm not sure they can afford to let Jimmy G go and rely on him. But I'm also not sure they're ready to swallow the bitter pill that they traded a fortune to draft a bust. Really think they'll try to extend Jimmy G a year or two to hedge their bets.

    • At the moment? Absolutely not. Maybe if they drop the next three in a row and go into the deadline at 3-6 I can see an argument to be made to move Rico as he's on a 1yr deal. I'd rather keep Chuba's contract though and roll with ETN + JB next season. The team will have plenty of time to see how JB is looking going into the offseason a year-plus after his surgery to know whether or not they need to plan for another direction.
    • I forgot to mention my thoughts on the rushing grade! 😮 He ran his ass off both weeks. I can't remember the stat offhand but didn't he have something crazy like 120+ yards after contact vs. Dallas? Against Miami he had lanes as wide as the entirety of I-95 to run through which is why his rushing grade wasn't as high as this week's. He's ran like a man possessed and going to earn himself some money in the offseason.
    • I'm not sure how much I'm changing mid year, especially when we are seeing some success.    Most Pass Rushers are physically gifted. Scheme and personnel help, but you gotta have the Jimmys and Joes, especially at that position.    We will likely lose games when the other team can throw for 400 yards, and has multiple high level receivers, but I think at this point in the development of our franchise, we have to be ok with that. You can't address every single issue at once. Really looks like we have plugged some holes on offense, and definitely in run defense. In the next draft, if we hit on a CB, an ILB and a Pass rusher, we will be pretty dangerous.
