Only QB that might be available at a decent price that I want is Derek Carr. Other than that, let’s draft a QB and see if he hits

If Carr was made available that would be a conversation worth having. I think he's Stafford light. A pretty good QB stuck playing for an awful organization. I don't think he's on Stafford's level but I do think he's a borderline top 10 caliber QB.

With that said, currently we are also a raging dumpster fire of an organization, so...

When he's played he's looked awful. I'm not sure they can afford to let Jimmy G go and rely on him. But I'm also not sure they're ready to swallow the bitter pill that they traded a fortune to draft a bust. Really think they'll try to extend Jimmy G a year or two to hedge their bets.

yeah but he was a rookie who didnt play football for entire year due to Covid. The sample size we got this year was just too little to go ahead and call the kid a flop.

49ers were shopping Jimmy G all offseason, they obviously think Lance can play football.

They kind of had to force their hand a little after what they gave up to draft him. It could have been more hoping he would keep developing (as he should).

A borderline top 10 guy can easily win with the right roster. He might make some bone headed plays occasionally but he will also win you some games. Sign me up today if we could get him without giving up our first this year.

But why shop Jimmy G if you are worried? It wasnt a necessary move, as proven. Not our problem, but I just dont think we have enough data to call Lance a poor QB. Fields looked awful his first 15 games and all of sudden everyone is praising Fields. Even he still has the same issues he has had as a rookie.

It's obvious they didn't think Jimmy G was good enough. If that was the case then there's no harm in shopping him. You don't make that trade for Lance if you think Jimmy G might be the answer.

But what if he is different for us?

Maybe Lance just needs a change of scenery.

He never had a good line.

His coach held him back.

He can realize his potential with us guy! POTENTIAL!!

As long as you stare into the unknown and avoid the known anything is possible...lol

I think Lance can still become a good QB. Like you said, it’s way too small of a sample size. They could have been shopping Jimmy G to show commitment to Lance without a seasoned starter breathing down his neck. I don’t really believe that was the case, but it’s possible.

Fields has the offense scoring TDs which is why fans are excited. His throwing (while still very limited) is showing progress. If he can take that up another level he is going to be a franchise QB.

I just don’t want to give away assets for another team’s QB. We tried it with Sam and Baker. Let’s try a different route..

Im not suggesting we trade for him... Im just stating that we dont have enough data to call Lance a failed QB. Everything else you have stated above we are seeing eye to eye good sir!

If Steichen is the hire, we go Minshew and stack picks. I could see someone like Steichen letting Corral and Minshew compete his first year, and ask the FO to stack picks for next year's draft. I believe the hype for this QB class is seriously losing momentum.

I just can't see a new coach being comfortable with something like that.  I know Minshew has been a bit of a dream bridge candidate for many fans (of multiple teams), but if you look beyond him, it's slim pickings.  Thin margins at play.
