Yeah, calling the game a tie kinda fugs them. But playing the game tomorrow then making them both play on a very short turnaround REALLY fugs them. Calling it a tie and moving on honestly might be the best bad option here.

nah.  move the playoffs back a week and remove the two week period between the championship games and the SB. I think they did that 9/11 year

thoughts and prayers to Hamlin and all impacted, but the best solution is the game being played.  no way around that IMO

Update:

So the league has gone from "We never said that!" to "Well, somebody said it. We don't know who but SHAME ON THEM!!!" 🙄

It was obviously a ref saying it. There was no one else down there at the time with the authority to say something like that.

Not a big deal. Those refs didn’t have the power to cancel the game so they probably thought they didn’t have a choice.

Joe Buck has said repeatedly that the word was coming from the NFL.

Albert Breer has characterized it as the league and officials following normal protocol, which more than anything shows they didn't grasp the reality of the situation. That in and of itself is more insensitive than evil.

But the league has been trying to rewrite the story, making it one of those situations where the cover up is worse than the act itself.

The same league that found copious amounts of evidence that exposed their budding dynasty at the time had cheated their way to multiple superbowl championships by recording other teams' practices and essentially having their entire gameplans as a result (including against us), so Goodell went to their offices, confiscated the tapes, then had his goons stomp them into pieces and bury them in an undisclosed location like they were Jimmy Hoffa? That league?

The same league that saw the tape of Ray Rice hitting his wife with a haymaker so vicious that it would hospitalize most grown men and decided he would just sit out a game or two because they were the only ones that saw it, so no harm, no foul...  until the tape leaked to the public and the outrage was justifiably so intense that all of a sudden, they decided it actually warranted a season-long suspension, him being released, and then being essentially blackballed from ever playing in the league again.  That league?

The same league that sat by quietly for years after player after player got popped for DV issues and they would just sweep it under the rug? The same league that allowed an environment to fester where Jovan Belcher could go kill the mother of his children, show up to the team facility and then blow his brains out as if there were no signs leading up to it? That league?

The same league that allowed our team to ride on our MVP QBs back with the #1 offense to the Superbowl in 2015, and then decided that Peyton Manning riding off into the sunset with a second championship was a better storyline so they rigged the game with inentionally horrible officiating and gave it to the Broncos.  Then after the game, in a moment I've never seen before or since, they have our QB, after just losing the biggest game of his life, mostly because he was never given a fair chance to compete, sit in an open corridor and do his post game interview and ask him what it feels like while they have Chris Harris from the Broncos 10 feet away from him bragging loudly about how they just shut him down...  so loud that he actually was drowning Cam out of his own presser.  Then that same league spent the next season and a half allowing teams to openly hunt Cam with blatant headshots and egregious attempts to concuss him, twist and contort him, and knock him out of games because they couldn't stop him within legal means.  And the NFL was 100% okay with that.  That league?

The same league that quietly blackballed Kaepernick for expressing his opinions about social justice, equality, equity, and police brutality - while simultaneously deciding to double down on fakeness and force teams to participate in public gestures of police support and standing for anthems seemingly in response to Kaepernick's stated issues.  That league?

The same league that sat by for decades knowing their game was causing irreversible damage to its athletes, leading many to chronic illness, debilitating conditions, brain damage, declining mental health, and even death? The same league that buried and suppressed the research linking the game to those issues?  The same league that sat on their hands while countless player after player committed suicide or harmed others after dealing with those health issues with no help from the league for years, all while the commish and his owner buddies counted their cash?  The same league that fought the players' association tooth and nail over giving many of those retired and ill-stricken vets that built their cash cow any tangible, significant benefits or help?  That league.

Oh.  Color me surprised.  Goodell has ZERO morals, ethics, or any intestinal fortitude.  The owners either.  This is simply a money-making endeavor for them, and the players are nothing more than a means to that end to them.  So you damn well better believe they tried to start that game up, regardless of what they say.  They only care about the optics after the fact.  Just like with all those other situations, Ray Rice in particular, if they can skirt by with their actions and no one calls them on it, they absolutely will do what is best for the bottom line and the bottom line only.  Hamlin to them, in that moment, was no different than a warehouse employee who had a heart attack...  they wanted him out of the way and to get on with business as usual.  They are disgusting.  Period.

Everyone has to have someone to kill

It’s just a pattern of behavior from the NFL. While I agree that they are dragging this out now but if the NFL did in fact say ok this dude is dead y’all got 5 mins to warm up and get your asses back on the field - there needs to be some accountability for this. I would expect that for any job and workplace. NFL should just own it. Admit it, apologize and learn from it. The cover up is always worse than the actual crime.

In 10 years you can add “ The same league that used certain planted referees in key games to control storylines and fix scores for Vegas in exchange for silence on the fixed storylines? That league?”

    • Derrick Brown was one player I never called or even suggested was a bust . Dude was young and hadn't even hit his stride. It takes time to learn the position. The thing I appreciated about him is that he kept improving season after season. He got paid and keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.
    • How many teams coddle their QB the way Bryce has been coddled? I have never seen any other team in the NFL EVER baby a QB the way that Bryce has been.  Bryce was named day 1 starter his first year. It was obvious he didnt deserve it. He wasnt ready as evidenced by the worst rookie year in NFL history.  So let's move to year 2. He's named starter again with no competition in TC and is benched 2 games later. We have the ghost of a backup in Dalton who is so bad he can only beat Vegas and let's remember, the only reason he lost his starting job was a car accident, not because Bryce actually beat him out in practice.  And year 3. We sign Dalton again, who already proved he couldn't be depended on to put an even remotely passable performance on the field, and bring back Jack Plummer, who was even worse than last year. It was obvious he was nothing more than a pretend body in an attempt to create an illusion of some type of attempt to find a backup.  Then we start again with garbage play again and Bryce gets benched with a phantom injury, and the ghost of the ghost of Dalton breaks his thumb on the first drive and craps the field all over again. If we had actually made an attempt to find a legitimate QB2, it's possible Bryce doesn't step on the field again. Bryce is not agood QB and if we had any other mediocre QB, our record would be the same or better.  Bryce is not entrenched. He's been placed, protected and sheltered from ever having to face a  real QB competition in TC. Richardson and Levis both were ass and both were benched and eventually replaced.  Do I expect Baker to face competition in camp? Sure. I expect Tampa to find the best QB2 they can at price that fits their cap and resources and system and get him up to speed. If he's better than Baker, and if he's better by a significant margin, that's best for the team. The ultimate goal is a Super Bowl. Bellichek was constantly getting QB2s with the GOAT as his starter. He knew the value and that was realized when Cassell led them to an 11-5 record as a backup.  You and I may think differently than the people that matter but I will say it again. If you're afraid to bring in a capable backup, especially after the debacle of last year. The starting role wasn't earned, it was given, and that's loser mentality.
    • I would have done the same thing.  LSU is a much better job than Ole Miss.  Plus the enormous contract and every advantage a college team can offer in terms of recruiting and facilities and tradition etc
