I like and respect Wilks the human being but the Tampa game changed my mind

nothing to lose and everything to gain and he still could t be aggressive on offense with the 4th downs particularly with the poor caliber DBs left standing

who knows what might have happened but we know what didn’t happen

And the reality is he was out of football in 2020, Missouri in 2021, is a Rhule hired, Rivera's longtime right hand man.  It's this strange combination of being tied to our last 2 regimes (that we supposedly all hate) and yet he's this perceived safe baseline choice.

Unsure about on this forum, but I distinctly remember many did NOT like what happened to our defense under him when McD left.  He was always perceived as this great positional coach, the tightest coach w/Ron, a practice leading, hard-nosed dude, but didn't cut the mustard as a DC.  It was then even worse with Eric Washington.  He has a great image, is a great dude by all accounts, awesome locker room guy, all big reasons he got hired to AZ as HC with only 1 year of DC experience.

But I have as much trepidation with him as our HC as I do with guys like Mayo or Moore.  He's a half-career college guy with really just Rivera & Rhule coaching room experience sans a year with the Browns. He followed Ron through Chicago and SD straight to the QC.

Maybe you’re right, but in 5 years Tepper hasn’t made one good move, so…….I guess we are going to find out.  😊

He’s already proven to be a better owner than Richardson by getting rid of Rhule in year 3. If Richardson had gotten rid of Rivera in year 3 like many of us were screaming for we might have a SB trophy in the case, with all that talent those teams had. At least Tepper isn’t afraid to make moves, I much prefer that to holding onto Hurney, Rivera, etc way way too long.

Not pooing on Johnson at all here because that would be exciting, but IF he failed it would crush the fan base.

I just think proven HCs Harbaugh(who WANTS the job), Reich, Kiffin, Scott Turner(never a HC but deserves it)give you a much better chance at turning our team around NOW. Especially Harbaugh.

You do that EVERYBODY knows you ain't f'n around no more.

Scott Turner????? Lol

You can keep posting stuff like this a dozen times a day every day for as long as you want, man. It's still not happening.

You were always with the flip the apple cart and blow it up crowd.

You love some "hot new". Your crowd is always rebuilding instead of winning.

Let someone else hire potentially the best HC in football by win percentage and actual success in college AND dominated in the NFL.

YOU don't want that guy Scot. YOU want foolishness. The Scottish don't produce wimps, just the opposite, warriors.

You don't have the eye for warriors. I wonder about you sometimes.

He was 12-4 in year 3

Maybe Tepper should keep his ass away from hiring until the paperwork needs to be signed. He's not a football player, college football player, nor coach. He's as qualified as I am if not less considering the amount of time I sit around watching, talking and otherwise consuming football information.

Give the job to Fitterer, you advise and consent and stay the fug away. You were "enamored" by Rhule as well and look where that got us. You've been so in love with the idea of getting an elite QB you've sacrificed 9 or 10 picks to try on guys who were known commodities.

Build the core of your team. There is no Justin Herbert, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, etc. in this draft worthy of trading even more picks away to get.

BUT...there may be a Brock Purdy. An experienced rookie with 3 to 4, or even 5 years, of playing time in college with the moxie, poise, and physical ability to take a strong core to the CHIP. Look at Brady. He started his career much like Purdy is looking now. Great core, average QB athletically and someone no one knew.

If you can't get an elite QB, history shows that you should get a good QB to go along with a great core. Don't sacrifice a great core for an average qb or you'll stay below average until you hit on a QB, at which point you can't build a core.

We may have a Brock Purdy on the roster. Won’t know till he sees the field.

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
    • Hiring Shula & his Cam save us playbook.
    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
