Cost for Bears pick?

Now that we have a coach who can develop a young QB I can see us trading up with the Bears for the first pick in the draft. How much would it cost? Our first rounder this year and the following two years? 1st and 3rd this year and next year? I’d really want to hold in to our high second rounder this year to get a new QB some help.

I wonder if people got a bit scared from the 49ers vastly overpaying for Lance. I don’t think Bears will get as much as in the past, but maybe I’m just overly optimistic. Will be interesting to see, no doubt.

Yep I’m curious to see as well

Lots of trades involving future 1’s that have blown up in teams faces the last couple of seasons

Obviously the Rams have a Super Bowl to show for theirs so easily justified but still

I think the 49ers with Lance, the Rams with Goff, the Eagles with Wentz all show that trading a bunch of picks to move up for a QB who winds up busting isn't the death blow people think it is. All 3 of those teams have had considerable success with other QBs despite giving up all those picks and never really had down seasons. So if we overpay for Stroud/Young and he doesn't work out BUT Reich turns out to be an elite overall head coach and/or we find another option at QB it wouldn't be an issue. I'm ok taking the chance, at least it gives us something to be truly excited about for the first time since probably drafting Cam.

we're in a bad position to get to #1...easier for other QB needy teams ahead of us to outbid us, for example Indy and Seattle could give up a bunch and Bears would get 4th or 5th and still get a stud.

Moving up to 3rd with the Cardinals would be easier but we'd likely have the 3rd best QB available, if there is a general consensus.  Still would be cheap, because we'd be'd bidding against other teams like the Raiders, Jets and who knows who else....gonna be costly for whoever moves up, and teams trading down know they can get much more than the trade chart says is fair.

Agreed, you can usually fill the holes in free agency with the cap space relief a Rookie QB gives you. The cap is going to go up a decent amount next year with the new TV deal money. Feels like with the contracts we have rolling off, the ability to structure extensions smartly, the cap jump that may come, and the Rookie QB Contract we could withstand the brunt of the pain of missing some picks for the next year or two.  Ideally it would look more like the Rams trade than the 9ers trade but at this point I think its time to make the move and go for it.

Agree that the Bears won't get as much as the 49ers, and some national talk does seem to think that signing Frank Reich is telegraphing Carolina's intent to move up to #1 to draft the QB of the future.

I'm personally ok with this, and as @t96 and @stan786 said, it doesn't have to be a mortal blow to the franchise to trade those picks. That what free agency is for (at least the following two years). And we can't trust our front office to work FA properly to cover for fewer picks, we shouldn't them to make the rick draft picks either.

I am seriously very concerned about us at #9.  It feels like there is a drop off after pick 7 IMO and we could be sitting there with no way to move up and no way to move back.  If Chicago won’t deal I am calling Arizona already as well.  We need to spend picks and move up badly.

I guess if we are sitting at 9 we could take Mayer but damn…not loving the options there.

I have decided I don’t want AR15.  Just don’t

I am convinced the top 3 QBs are gone by pick 6

I think if we aren't sold on the remaining QBs at 9 and we can't move then we take one of Quinten Johnson, Jordan Addison, Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Although they all bring things that would help us the value at #9 is suspect.  I personally take Jaxon Smith-Njigba because although he lacks blazing speed he is a really solid all around WR.  He is my #1 WR so he helps.  Michael Mayer would be interesting there.  He has like zero negatives except maybe explosiveness but he is going to be good to great.

My really big problem with Johnston is his tendency to disappear in games.  He drops to many balls too.  Just not a fan.  Addison is really talented but his size is a serious problem for me.

    • Lawn boy he is trash! Dude wants to run the ball with the 25th ranked run offense. We can go back to Bryce talk now. Close!
    • I thought Matt Rhules felt like a traveling preacher/sewing machine salesman. Then I thought Reich had the emotions of the captain of a baby seal clubbing team. I kind of like Canales and think he may be adaptable in today's NFL. I know we need to to see it but does he not give you guys hope too, or will he get his moniker too? (My bad, tired of looking at the same thread titles)
