What are you talking about? There are plenty of fact, like the last 4 years, that prove Darnold effing sucks.
Darnold was not good even during his wins. He wasn’t.
Saints game was the real Sam Darnold. The Tampa game was the real Darnold. Good lord you guys are so freaking weird.

Playing decently(for him) while the Defense let him down by allowing Evans to burn them 3 times for a TD?

That's not exactly the "real Darnold".  Maybe you should keep that example out of your post and only stick to the Saints one that better illustrates your point.

I wonder what the Venn diagram would be of people who want Sam back and the people who wanted/want Wilks back. Probably close to a pure circle lol.

My poor attempt at a Venn diagram (that's probably incorrectly done. lol ) :

Your infatuation with Darnold is weird.  He fuging sucks.  And weren't you advocating to sign hin for 3 years at 8 million per?   What changed?

Here's my actual post from January 7th...

I give a range of 2-3 years with an out before the 3rd year. I posted a recommendation of 5-8mil per year but hedged with hoping he had his worst game of the year vs Saints so we could be on low end of those ranges. Then that actually happened. So now his market value is estimated around the low end (like I said) according to Spotrac and Over The Cap.

You mad that what I hoped came to fruition?

The Darnold that threw for 350 yards and kept us in the game when our trash corners were getting beat like a drum by Mike Evans? I'll take that Sam every day of the week.

Just weird to say the Saints game and the Tampa game are the real Darnold when both were so vastly different for him...

Tampa Bay was a trash team. Next week rookie Ridder had the best game of his season vs that trash D.   Who wants to keep around the worst starter in the NFL over the last half decade because of a random game here or there.

Sam Darnold is a very bad NFL starter.   What is he going to offer Matt or anyone else we might draft this year.   He doesn't play the game well between the ears.  Which is what you would want from a backup caliber QB.  You either want potential or a has been that is at least smart.  Sam offers neither.

Good post. Much closer to the truth that the person you responded to

People refuse to think with nuance and just look at stats with no context.

Hey Mr. Nuance. Darnold has not had a game winning drive in five years and he's gotten more chances than some other QB's have. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

It is because we don't have PTSD that we can evaluate Sam objectively. The folks with PTSD don't want him based on 2021 which carried over to negative evaluations this year that were not based on the facts. I don't think you understand what PTSD is or what it causes and yes I do.

New regime, time to take out the trash and move forward.

You're confusing me on the real Darnold.

Saints game - agree that sucked.

Tampa game - 23/37 for 341 yards, 3TD/1INT - credited with two fumbles. One a clear miscommunication from center snapping the ball early. The other a whiff on the blindside by Ekwonu where Darnold got hit as he threw. That's not bad QB play. Without the mistakes from the oline and defense, that QB play wins you over 75% of games.

Corral = 23

Darnold = 25

He still has potential. He is a top 5-10 backup QB at minimum right now. That's worth 5mil

Sam still sucked in 2022 though.  58% completion on the year.  Only his rookie season was worse.

The run game was good vs bad teams.  It allowed them to minimize Sam's ability to negatively influence games.

To me the 2022 hype is just a variation of the early 2021 Sam hype.   The bad Sam is clearly still there.   He just went a tiny stretch where he didn't totally implode games.  Which is something you have always been able to cherry pick in his career.  In New York too.  Sam Darnold simply isn't a decent NFL QB.

Take away the Saints outlier and it's about 62%

And if completion percentage is how we are going to judge QBs, then yikes. You want to know who had a good completion percentage last year? Matt Ryan. The same Matt Ryan that got benched twice for Sam Ehlinger and Nick Foles...

The stats I liked a lot more. Only 3 INTs in 6 games (only 1 if you ignore the Saints stinker). Huge jump in career best in Yards/Att, Yards/Completion, TD%, INT%, and QB Rating. I could care less about your completion percentage if you are just throwing check downs on 2nd/3rd and long. Also keep in mind his passing stats don't include any games with CMC, who will make any QB look a lot better than they are.

Sam's last game winning drive was <checks notes> the last game he played.

    • Well, they're both in the same league (if you will). During preseason, Fitz went 3/3 & Sauls went 5/6, but of course Sauls was 4/4 last night (including one 50+). Both were Lou Groza Award finalists. I believe Fitz made two 55+ yarders last season, while Sauls led the nation with three. Fitz was 13/13 (💯) while Sauls was 21/24 (87.5). Fitz was a 3rd-Team AP All-American, while Sauls was a PFF All-American.  Career-wise, Fitz was 58/74 (78.4), while Sauls was 52/64 (81.3). I wish that I could see the attempts and knew the depth of yardage. I wish that we could compare practice kicks during their training camps, but we can't. Maybe someone with a PFF/CFF account can give that Basically it's just a matter of belief I guess. Seeing dude knock down four FGs and go perfect during a pressure-filled game for him is damned impressive if you ask me. I don't believe that Fitzgerald could do that.  That being said, I'd have to know more. I will say that it may be worth mentioning that we seem to like PFF this year and Sauls being a PFF All-American may be notable. Now that being said, the Panthers may not be even considering Sauls.
    • Ive said it 1000x times on here.  Our 2025 season will be dictated by the first 4 games.  poo the bed there and lose all confidence and momentum, we win 5 games maybe.  Go 2-2, 3-1 we got a look at 7/8 wins
    • I basically made almost the exact predictions on a phone call with a buddy about 3 weeks ago. I really do expect Evero gone before the seasons end, Young to just not able to get over the hump enough and DC to head into next season on a VERY hot seat.
