Question about Matt Corral

it's a tough situation for Corral. usually, leftover projects from the previous regime at QB are escorted pretty quickly away. Reich brought Jacob Eason in as his project arm and that might represent the threshold Corral has to surpass to make this team. If you look at the QB that Reich has worked with, they're all arm first guys. Manning in Indy during his first stint. Rivers in San Diego. Wentz in Philly. Rivers again in Indy. Ryan in Indy.

This is why he favors Eason, because Eason has the arm talent to match just about anyone in this draft with Will Levis as the only true competition. I know that sounds absurd, but arm talent is not the only measure of a QB, which is why Eason has been in 3 organizations. It does make me believe that Levis is the preference if we're trying to draft a QB this year. Richardson is far too raw for what Reich wants. I think Corral is a bit more of a two way kind of QB where you give up some on the arm for some on the legs and that hasn't traditionally been what Reich has wanted. I think that extends to the draft eligible QB as well with Young and Richardson being less attractive for us.

Your theory about Eason goes out the window because he was signed to a reserve contract three days prior to Frank Reich being named head coach.

There is no way Eason is going to go into camp ahead of Corral.  Eason, at best, is camp fodder.

Corral has many good traits for an NFL QB.  If there is one coach that can bring out the best in him, it's Reich.

Corral may be a dark horse heading into Camp behind a Rookie and a Vet but that doesn't mean he's complete out of the picture.

Let’s not pretend like moving up to the mid 3rd to acquire a QB is some insanely high compliment. They were definitely intrigued by him, but if they thought he was a franchise guy the move would have happened a lot sooner. They gave up what a 4th comp and future 3rd for the trade? Corral has some potential, but our staff isn’t heavily invested in him which is why they are probably scouting QBs again for an early pick.

Whatever makes you sleep at night. Coach came in talking about wanting a top five defense and there was a glow on his face as he did so.

When asked about QB he kinda blew it off in favor of talking about that top D again. From the press conference it didn't seem like he was worried about QB.

You seem more concerned about that topic than he did. Keep it up though. Maybe some sucker team will give us a sh*tload for that #9 with all the QB banter.

I like Will Levis but you already know that I think he should be a late first rounder at best and I'm on his bandwagon. What does it mean when Will Levis is being discussed in the top ten?

It means nobody is sure about anybody at the top and CJ Stroud is the only QB that should be in the top 5 of this draft and he's not the prototype of a sure shot either, questions about adversity, frontrunning.

Frank Reich's daughter got a job with the Panthers weeks prior to that. I think exploratory talks were going well enough at that point to assume that Eason, who is very on paper similar to guys Reich has liked, might have been something casually mentioned. I'm not saying he beat the table down for him, but Eason isn't camp fodder. He's won some jobs and was right in the mix in Seattle until the very end of camp. Guys come into those meetings with plans and position recommendations. Eason being a Reich pick isn't irrelevant in that scenario in my opinion. Doing little things to improve your chances when you're trying to lure a coach in are appreciated. Corral and Eason will battle in camp. They're less than a year apart in age and both younger than the Georgia starter.

Reich's daughter had zero to do with his hiring and it was purely coincidental that she was hired a week before her dad was.  Eason is practice squad material and that's it.   He's nowhere near the talent Corral is.  He's been cut by the Colts and Seahawks and has been on and off our practice squad.

At the time of his signing, we had one QB on the Roster, Corral.  So, they resigned him to play along until we get our rookie and once a Vet is signed don't be surprised if we cut him again.

Nothing more than fodder.

He doesn't have the elite athletic ability that someone like AR does, nor the arm strength. Definitely doesn't have Young's high level intangibles or field vision. He is a pretty good mix of above average abilities physically.

His biggest issue is going to be the learning curve to learning an NFL offense. He isn't going to be able to use that RPO/Air Raidish style in the NFL and specifically run the ball as often as he did in college. His best years in college he was rushing the ball 100+ times. He isn't built for that or athletic enough for that kind of usage rate. So he has to really reinvent himself at this level. That's not a small undertaking. If it does succeed, it will take take.

His arm talent is better than anyone in this class minus Richardson, but he’s a much craftier passer than him, his release is faster than anyone in recent memory l. He was at his best when his top 3 WR aren’t injured and ole miss had the number offense in the country, he only started running a lot cause they had no options.
