Johnson is the run game coordinator in Philly. So it’s the same issue but the inverse of what you are describing. We have Staley here for the run game coordinating… we need someone with a pass design background now.

Of the three main rumored options… 2 out of the 3 are passing centric coaches. I don’t think Johnson is coming here with Staley in place.

Johnson is the QB coach, a former QB himself and was OC at Florida for the 2020 season. Dunno where you got the run game thing from

Okay, so I read the full article. Person doesn't talk about any options other than Brian Johnson and Jim Bob Cooter.

Pretty sure those are not the only two options.

given that the Rooney Rule applies to coordinator hires these days, they can't be the only two by rule.

Don't feel too good about this Cooter guy. I'd much rather go with the younger talent in Philly

Cooter’s offenses were characterized by a lot of passing and not much in the way of a run game. The Lions ranked ninth, 11th and sixth in passing offense in Cooter’s first three seasons but were 32nd, 30th and 32nd in rushing over the same span. Cooter’s game plans resulted in 1,000-yard receiving seasons for Golden Tate and Marvin Jones, but Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford took a beating. Stafford was sacked an average of 42 times while Cooter was the Lions’ offensive coordinator, including a career-high 47 in 2017.

Idk, I think that characterization of his offence is unfair.. It was done out of necessity rather than philosophically. Personnel matters, and Detroit's o-line could not get push. I wouldn't dismiss him as a candidate due to their struggles running the ball.

    • Nobody on the huddle is saying we have an elite group offensively across the board. They aren't great. They're young. If you are expecting someone to agree with your position of blaming everyone around Bryce Young nearly three full seasons into his career you are going to be left holding the bag save for a handful of people who act like they are paid to defend his honor. Bryce Young is not a guy who has had to claw and fight his way into starting jobs in football. He's had the best to work with and been gifted roles since he was a teenager. The Panthers have one of the youngest rosters in the league and with us needing an infusion of young defensive talent in the upcoming draft we're only going to get younger. We need a QB who possesses the ability to elevate those around him. If you can't agree with me on that then there's nothing further to discuss.
    • All Bryce and the Panthers had to do was split with the Saints and a rookie QB. The bar was so low. They even had a whole bye week to prepare. The time for singing kumbaya was before that game. Anyone still talking about Bryce earning a second contract 43 games into his career is living a fantasy. He might get one from the Tepper owned Panthers but he's damn sure not earned it.
