Carr Watch

Carr can be a nice bridge QB imo, but who here really believes Carr would defeat Burrow, Mahomes, or a newer superstar QB in the SB? No chance. That means no SB with Carr, and hence he is a bridge QB. Offer him a bridge QB contract, and if he turns his nose up, then who gives a poop?

Definitely.

As far as Carr, my attitude is the same as with the draft.

We have a coaching staff and leadership that I trust, so I'll sign on to what they decide.

About the only thing I can trust going forward is that it can't possibly be any worse.

QB is the Panthers biggest need and everyone in the league knows it.

I can't help but wonder, what did the Panthers organization tell these high profile coaching candidates about the team's QB plans to secure their commitment?

Gotta figure it was a solid plan.

I doubt it was "We're re-signing Sam Darnold, we're convinced we can fix him!"

Are we sure those plans were made before the bulk of the staff was assembled, though?

I'm sure Tepper and Fitterer had discussions with the head coach candidates, but in this case I was thinking more about the discussions with potential coordinators and support staff.

Considering the Panthers recent history, I'd imagine Tepper, Fitterer and Reich would have to be more forthcoming than "Trust us, we got this".

Reich really likes Carr.  I don't believe it is because of his spiritual beliefs either.  IMO, Reich thinks he can get more out of Carr than anybody can.  If he were to come here, I would bet, though I am not a betting man, Carr will have Career numbers.

I'm sure these coaches understand the draft and free agency are rather fluid, so there are no guarantees as to the outcome.  However, I'd expect there would have been discussions about how far the organization was willing to go in order to secure the team's next starting/franchise QB.

For instance, if the team is "all in on QB in 2023" how would that impact me as the DC when I'm looking to build out my defense during the next few seasons?

As aggressive as they've been with the coaching hires I would not be surprised if Tepper didn't tell them to do both if necessary.

I'd be surprised if he said that. Tepper was very direct about us having to be able to use our resources more efficiently. The days of being loosey-goosey with our real capital (i.e. cap space) and draft capital are done. If you're going to do it, you better be wise and judicious about it, or you may find yourself out of a job.
