For job security.  His cap numbers the next two years are such that we won't cut him.

And we shouldn't cut him. He's going to be instrumental to this defense, particularly in the transition to a 3-4 set up. He's a smart player and has a better grasp of how plays develop and where everyone needs to be than just about anyone in the league right now --- we'd recognize that more if we hadn't been spoiled over the years by Luke Kuechly.

Shaq's going to shine this coming year.

They have us at 90 million in space for 2024

That doesn’t include:

Burns extension

Brown 5th year option

Jeremy Chinn will be a FA

Frankie Luvu will be a FA

I’m sure they restructure Moton again next season

I thought a Burns extension would be one of the first orders of business this offseason considering how much cap space it frees up.  That and Shaq's reworked deal.

Same but now that we are switching to a 3-4 maybe Burns wants to play this year out first

Potential for him to get those sack numbers up/bigger payday

It may also be a good investment for us to  let him play out the tag. There is a chance that he might underperform in the 3-4 and it would be better to not be tied to a multi-year deal for heavy bucks when the player can't live up to it.

I don't think Burns will underperform, I think he will thrive, but we've seen it happen before when the big contract gets put into place.

We easily add 10M to that by cutting Jackson

    • Okay then, tell me what your expectations are for Thielen, XL, and Coker this year If someone wants to come out there and say they think Thielen is only getting 600-700 yards this year, then yea, I'm going to then expect T-Mac to get to 1,000. If someone wants to say they think XL or Coker is going to fall back to 300 yards this year, then yea, I'm going to expect T-Mac to get to 1,000. People seem to think I'm making excuses for why T-Mac can't get there, but it's the literal opposite, my expectations for him stem from my belief our other WRs for the first time in who knows how long.   We finally have a legitimate and full WR room, not sure that's happened since the Smitty and Moose days.  It's going to make them all better players, but it will also suppress all of their stats as they're all going to cannibalize each other a little bit.
    • It’s certainly not my shining moment. But I still made it. Running the Sacramento marathon in December and hope to have a more Jake Delhomme-level of stardom there. The Everyman that overcomes obstacles to almost reach the pinnacle of success only to have it taken away by Adam Vinateri.
