It would be a weird decision to play a former top 10 pick primarily as a nickel. I hope to see him used basically as he has been since we drafted him.

Why though? WR1 play out of slot more than ever in this league.... they are the motion receivers. Modern NFL has WR1 moving around and not sitting on the boundary like they used to. You want your best corner to be able to play the nickel position bc its not a one direction cut route like the boundary line.

It's not like Horn is going to be on the bench when we are running base. We are just moving horn inside in nickel package.

They keep talking about playing a guy when he is ready....i dont think you can count Richardson out.

It would take Richardson 2 years to hopefully meet the minimum requirements Fitterer described in a QB.

Nickel IS the base package in the modern NFL. You're in nickel probably at least 75% of the time.

I personally like Stroud slightly more than Young, but it sure seems like they are leaning Young but certainly forcing themselves to make a decision sooner than they have to.

The statement of wanting see  2-3 years  or 1000 plays on tape to evaluate pretty much confirms it won’t be Richardson. I’m starting to feel stronger and stronger after, that Young and Stroud will be the only 2 QB’s taken top 10.

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
