I just see a completely different talent from hurts. Hurts can read the field and is decisive. Fields can't read the field for crap and looks to run more often than not. While Fields is incredible at running the ball, you need to be able to throw the ball as a QB and he has not shown the capacity to be able to do so in any consistency since being drafted. There have been no flashes of great QB play, just highlight reel runs.

I mean that was the knock on hurts, his passing wasn’t near where it needed to be at the time he was drafted or when he became the starter for the eagles, they added aj brown and Devontae smith and he became mvp caliber qb, a better overall supporting cast would help fields, his best WRs before they acquired Moore was who? Mooney ? Kmet? Not to even mention the shotty o line.

fields might not pan out but I think Chicago has done very little to put pieces around him to develop as a passer or even be competitive

He will have to break the curse. He would be the first to do it. I would feel better about him if he were at another school.  The curse is real man.

My big concern with Williams is how long he holds the ball. He cannot hold the ball like that in the NFL. If he does he won't translate. Can he speed it up? I have no idea.

His average time to throw last year would've been nearly dead last in the NFL.

I feel the same way.

With the exception of Carson Palmer (who had a good, but not an exceptional career) I honestly can't think of ANY OTHER USC QB's that had a "good" NFL career...and I'm actually old enough to remember Pat Haden playing for the LA Rams in the late 1970's.

I was never a Justin Fields fan. As soon as I saw OHIO STATE on his resume it was an easy pass. I have no regrets about us not drafting him.

That said, I feel bad for him. He needs a solid offensive head coach (or a really top end OC) to help him develop. As soon as Chicago went with a defensive HC I knew Fields was going to struggle out of the gate this season.

I LOVE these videos from JT.  I have learned so much more stuff about football by watching his videos every week.  He's the man. Waiting for his Bryce video from Week 1.  Fields and the Bears look like dogshit though.  Like WTF are they even doing?

Same, it’s really eye opening

Fields doesn't play bad on every play and Horn hasn't been perfect on every play.

On balance, I'd rather have the first round pick who plays.

Can't wait to not see Horn play on Monday, again.

I am more disappointed we didn’t draft Micah Parsons instead

I really don't understand why you wouldn't have been high on him as a passer because he was historically accurate in college. It's really not his passing that's getting him, it's his processing. It's the same reason why he slid in the draft.

Processing but also his footwork and mechanics in terms of his body positioning is really bad

Yeah, that's a dumb argument, no different than saying it's better to keep a bad coach than to fire them.

(but then, I'm pretty sure you made that argument last year too)

I think foreman is one of those get better with more touches types of back.  It will be hard for him to produce as a rb3

But that can be looked at two ways. Which do you think it is with him or both?

1. He needs those carries to get going.

2. The defense is worn and then he can inflict punishment from being a big back.

processing is the base of passing, probably the most important characteristic assuming an arm that's got any QB to the point they are on an nfl roster

I've heard scouting rumors it's because of they way they limit how much of the field they are taught to read. Everything is predicted to one read on half the field at any given time. It a very simple concept for the qb's.  How much of that is true I do not know.  As for USC? It must be the water or something because I've not heard scouting romurs on why they always suck in the nfl. But its real.

That wouldn't be surprising for what they do.

I've said before that technically it's not the college staff's job to get their players ready for the NFL. Their job is to win games at the college level.

Mind you, those two things used to go hand in hand way more so than they do now.

or like keeping his pick for GM...an argument you are still making.  Post any Rhule hype vids lately?

Good luck with that.

    • Am I reading this right? We've had awful QB play for over half a decade...and we'd pass on Dak because he has no "clutch gene" or can't get it done in the playoffs--something we haven't sniffed and have no reason to believe we will for years to come?!? Sorry, but this sounds like a starving man turning down a box of crackers because they're Great Value instead of Ritz. If a Great Value QB is available when you have none, there is no deliberation needed.
