First 1/3 of this article is pretty telling

When reading this article, the first third of it is pretty damning when it comes to Reich and co.

“Any coordinator still operating this way is immediately telling on himself.”

And that’s why our offense is the way it is.

Reading about the creativity of another mind from the Shanahan tree just makes me shake my head incessantly over here.

One source indicated to Go Long this week that some within the Panthers organization approached Reich and the coaches about needing to innovate offensively to fully maximize Young’s skillset. (More on this later.)”

Who is ‘some within the org’? Fitt and Tepper I assume?

That is aimed squarely at Frank. Rightfully so. This is an ancient offense. It hurts every single player on our roster.

I'm just wondering why Tepper, Fitterer and company ever thought that Reich was some type of offensive play calling guru. Fitterer and Morgan have seen enough football to know that Reich ain't the business. Someone had to lead Tepper down the wrong path. Simplistic schemes just aren't going to fool anybody in the modern NFL.

It would be a bit surprising if we came out if the bye week with Frank still as the play caller. Bye week is the perfect time to make a change. Time to see what Brown has, still a complete wildcard.

I don’t think it matters much who is calling plays. Brown wrote the playbook. This is his system too.

Remember, Brown was coaching RBs the past few years. This is his first go at OC in the NFL.

IMO, Brown will be the first to get the boot. Frank will get another year with the ultimatum to find a better OC with a better offensive plan.

Just a guess but...I'm guessing he went with Reich because none of the hot candidates would take the job. They knew to stay away from Tepper.  So, Tepper went with Plan B: Offensive Coach who would put together a great staff.

Well look at the offensive minds they also brought in with him. They probably thought that would have some impact. In reality Frank was never gonna be comfortable straying from what he knew. He believes too much in what he is doing.

When he said they had a call that could go to Theilen and only him, and he wasn’t even in the game, he absolutely told on himself. This offense is stuck in the past. It’s Kanye the least innovative, least “dictating to the defense” offense that I’ve ever seen us run. It’s just slow and dated and boring. If Young was in Houston he’d be lighting it up like Stroud and if Stroud were here he’d seem stuck in the mud like Young. Reich has GOT to give up supreme control over the offense.

Brown wrote most of the playbook. I’m not sure if the ‘answer is on the roster’.

    • Really? You don't see why a team can't draft a QB in the 1st round while then starting their former #1 overall pick over them while on the last year of their deal? It puts the team in a TERRIBLE place no matter how the season goes.  If Bryce sucks, you have to answer questions as to why he was still on the team to begin with, let alone starting over the rookie.  If he's good, then you run into the situation the Vikings were in last offseason with sticking with the rookie contract or the the guy who just performed instead of said young QB. It's one thing when teams keep a vet around as a bridge QB, it's something entirely different when that QB is still only in their mid 20's and was taken #1 overall by that team.   That just doesn't happen and not sure it ever has in NFL history before.
    • What is the alternative? - BY, will not play for less then his perceived contract (just like Cam Newton did). So you pay him top of market as befitting a 1st round, Heisman winning, playing birthing QB would get. Or you cut him. - Then we are forced to either sign a stop gap QB / previously failed QB and try to fix him or you spend a 1st round pick and draft a guy, basically resetting the team.  The reality is that we all want a top 5 QB. The problem is there are only 5 of those guys in the world and drafting, even #1 overall doesn't guarantee that.  The other problem is the NFL market. Young QB get paid. Even an average, young QB gets top of market deals. I know a lot of people here think we could sign him to an 'average QB contract' but thats not reality. Didnt happen with Cam wont happen with BY.  So we could let this season flush out and he is again a middling QB. But then we cut and restart or accept it is what it is (including compensation) and build a team around what we have.  My money is on the latter.
